cruisers hymn

Hi All

After getting involved in the smoking debate I thought I would post something on a lighter note. I do quite a lot of writing on various subjects and I did one on a Noahs Ark cruise. As part of the piece the passengers were called upon to sing a hymn, so I composed this.

I hope it may provide some mild amusement for some, and I apologize in advance to those who consider it a waste of space.

THE CRUISERS HYMN.

On oceans deep protect us, our being and our soul,

And keep us standing upright when ere the ship may roll.

Should sickness overtake us, preserve for us a place,

where, what we eject, does not return to hit us in the face.

Please send us sunny weather for playing shuffleboard,

Dry decks, no wind, is our desire, grant us this O Lord.

Please help us win the prizes of travel bags and pens,

And may our puck always avoid, landing in minus tens.

Teach us restraint at auctions where art is up for sale,

Open our eyes that we may see its quite beyond the pale.

Remind us that its awful, its terrible and its bad.

Hung on the wall, it would only be,an expensive passing fad.

From overpriced photographers protect us Lord we pray.

Tempting entreaties to purchase may be firmly answered, Nay.

To purchase all these pictures we would surely need a loan.

Instruct us Lord in camera use that we may take our own.

From the sin of gluttony preserve us Lord we pray,

Teach us to leave some of the food for another day.

Just because we have paid for food it does not really follow,

That we should always fill our plates with more than we can swallow.

Protect us when we go ashore in strange and distant lands,

That crafty foreigners will not remove our money from our hands.

May we buy many trinkets, the price cut to the bone,

And smuggle them through customs when we arrive back home.

And when the cruise is over and its time to disembark,

Give us the strength to carry all our gear to the car park.

May our luggage be undamaged and in every way complete.

Please hear the prayers we offer from your mercy seat.

And should our vessel founder and we never reach the shore,

O Lord we would beseech Thee, to give us one thing more.

As we board the heavenly cruise ship to sail to the last port,

May we find a seat inside, not out, in the self service court.

MJH 1943- Not Yet

I would be the first to admit "Abide With Me" it is not, but you never know, somebody may like it.

Regards

Hi LibraLass41

I am pleased you liked my cruisers hymn. I am quite happy for you to post it on your site, and you are more than welcome to use my initials that appear at the end of it as well as the name cabinboy.

I would also be interested in looking at your site if you could post a link.

I must confess I did wonder whether to post the thing in the first place but as you seemed to enjoy it I am now glad I did.

Happy Cruising

Regards

Hi Sue

Thanks for the links. I have had a quick glance and they look very interesting. I will study them more during the week. I hope my hymn finds favour on your site. If it does not, remember, you will get the blame for posting it,:( not me for writing it

Regards Michael
