Do kids still get a fall break?

I'll 2nd that. Im in MI too, and while the kids get a break during conferences, they dont start school until after Labor Day and are finished before June even starts.

 

Here in MS, school started Aug 7th. They keep starting earlier and earlier each year and putting more days off during the school year.

I live in North Alabama and it is Fall Break for three of the school systems in the area the 2nd week of Oct and the system where I live, Fall Break is the 3rd week of Oct. We have two friends crusing the 2nd week out of Mobile and we're crusing out of Miami on the 3rd week, as another friend we know.

 

There's another county nearby who only gets 2 days off for Fall Break, not enough for a cruise.

 

Cullman only gets the 3rd Monday and Tuesday of for Fall Break.

Honeybear-I really hate your town!! LOL It is only because my husband leaves some money there pretty regularly!!! (at the casino) Of course I stop in Paducha and drop alot of mine there at the mall before I reach the casino!! So we are in your neck of the woods quiet often!:D

i agree it depends on your school district. But with the realization that i will probably get slammed for saying this , here it goes..........i am a mother of three children and I am always amazed at how brazen it is of many people on these boards to openly admit their "dread" of.....oh my god heaven forbid....KIDS....

No slamming but I don't think it's brazen at all for people to plan how to spend their money on their vacation in a way that makes them comfortable. With kids, without kids, in the fall, in the spring, hurricane season, winter, summer, whatever each to his own. No one needs to "get over themselves".

LOL... you guys! I was asking about College kids! Not those cute little ones!

 

bstman, I certainly undrstand. I agree 90% but the other 10% of me says go for it! The taxes off of the casino has really helped our town! We have an awesome library. I love it. But a lot of families have been ruined because of it. Well you know what I mean. lol. But... welcome to our town! Where do you live? Close by?

Get over myself? I wanted to know if it was the Fall break for college kids not one stinking word was said about school kids. People get tired of asking a question and then getting slammed! Please, know what the subject is before you slam me. Below is a quote from a previous message oh THIS thread.

 

You are the nicest bunch of people! You remember me because of my hometown! You've been here and had very nice things to say. I appreciate you all. Yes, even the ones with the bad news! lol.

 

DH has a Superman t-shirt to wear the first day. As you said, for a conversation piece. Ummm, maybe I need to get a Superman shirt for me too? Whatcha think? Yep, we do still have Superman weekend here every year and you are all welcome! lol

 

I "love" kids, I really do! But I don't like the ones that "drink and think they are all of that" or drink and empty their stomachs everywhere. That's what I was concerned about. But someone said College kids don't get fall breaks? Befor I get into trouble, I know all college kids don't act like that. I have one that wouldn't drink a drop. But, I know several that would. ;)

Sorry to ruin your day but we are leaving on a cruise Oct 13th with our kids who are on fall break. Don't ya just hate me. :D

My kids are on break for 2 weeks in Oct. We cruise every year then. Not all kids are but some are. With year round schools and all these modified school years kids can be out at anytime.

I am the mother of two children and I don't think it's at all "brazen" to ask about times when the least amount of children will be present. The OP was referring to college age, but even if she wasn't, there would be nothing wrong with that! People have legitimate reasons for wanting to go at a time when there might be fewer kids on board and they have nothing to apologize for or to "get over." Now if they demand that children be banned, that's a different story. That's not the case here.

that is the week that alot of the fall breaks fall under...sorry

 

I too am taking a cruise this week and didn't realize it...hopefully it will be ok for us all....I love my children, but I am not taking them with me on this cruise. I usually take 1 vacation a year without the hubby or kids...and this is the week.

Honeybear-We are close, about an hour south of Paducha, right on the TN/KY border-Union City, TN. I was just kidding about your town-I also enjoy the casino(don't let my husband know that.) He thinks he has to bribe me into going so he offers to go shopping and out to eat in Paducha before heading there. LOL He probably built that library!:D He really loves poker and since they opened the poker room there he is happy!! I am glad it is helping your town.

You should not have many college kids on your cruise. The ones close to here do not get fall break. And I guess I am brazen because when my husband and I cruise I want to go when the least amount of kids (any age) will be on the ship! I have 2 of my own and we take them cruising during the summer months but when we go without them it is Jan or Feb. I do not have a problem with kids I just would rather not be aorund a million of them when I am vacationing without mine.

Bstmom, thank you for your nice letter but I'm curious about something... Females aren't suppose to be bribed by the males into doing something the don't like to do? (yeah right! :D) I totally understand and I'll never tell! Tell what? Lol. If I leave this house, I'm eating somewhere before I return. Girlfriend I can be bribed! Lol

Seriously, I hate the river boat and I don't like how the town has changed (in size). DH and I have even considered moving away, we are just small town people.

 

But we honestly have gotten a LOT of revenue from it. We have all brand new schools, and our library is wonderful! If a patron wants to read a book and they don't have, they'll order it for them! It's just great! I do genealogy and the genealogy section is second to none.

 

You just keep on letting him drag you on down here! And don't stop him from making you go to the Mall in Paducah. ;)
