Is there anything nearby the Port itself?

In doing my research, it appears that the Belize Zoo & City Tour we are looking at will only take approx 3.5 hrs.

 

I presume all ships Tender here and therefore we may not get off the ship until about 10am. Bearing this in mind, and that our ship won't leave until 6pm;

1) what else would there be to do nearby the ship?

2) Is it safe to venture out on our own?
