mach4 Posted September 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2007 Our repositioning cruise adventure is off to a great start. It has been dubbed the "last boat out of Alaska" cruise. At the mandatory emergency muster, the Captain indicated that he would have an important weather announcement later in the evening. Turns out there was a huge storm brweing in the Gulf of Alaska and our initial stop in Sitka and the subsequent visit to Hubbard Glacier was cancelled. In it's place he announced that we would be staying on the inside passage and visiting Wrangel rather than Sitka and Tracy Arm rather than Hubbard. As we learned of the reasons for the change, we were all pleased. Seems as if the ship had some interesting weather experiences on the cruise the week before - "weather" meaning 128 knot peak winds and 30 foot seas. The captain reported that this was undoubtedly the worst weather the ship had ever seen. The storm brewing this week was almost identical to the previous one. I think everyone agreed with the decision... Wrangel is a nice diversion. A quiet town that doesn't see a lot of cruise ship traffic. We missed Tracy Arm on our last cruise due to departing late and not having enough time to do the glacier and make our next port call. Should be great. Our Meet and Greet pulled 88 participants. It was fun to meet some of the on-line crowd. Was anyone on the Serenade for the September 15 sailing? How bad was the weather? (I did a quick search and didn't find any posts)
GMoney Posted September 24, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2007 Wrangel is supposed to be nice. I think it's more interesting to go to a less-traveled port. Did you dock or tend? I'm guessing the latter.

w8ing2cruz Posted September 29, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2007 Live Life - I think I read your countdown clock correctly - Jan 26, 08? We will also be on that cruise. You should go to the RCI Meet and Mingle under roll calls and see all of the others sailing on that cruise.
