Cambridgecruiser Posted September 26, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Quai St Pierre ( which leads on to La Croisette).. Thanks for that we now have to hope P&O decide on the day that it is not too rough to land as they did at Portimoa one year, other wise family will have traveled down for nowt:(
LibraLass41 Posted September 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2007 Land ?? Tenders?? Well don't presume they will !!! We were in Cannes on a hot sunny day on 27th June this year, and we never got to dry land, and had to stay onboard all day and anchor off Antibes. We were told it was too choppy to drop the tenders, and worse was expected in the afternoon which would of caused problems getting us all back onboard. We were upset to miss Cannes, as were due to go to Monte Carlo, and was very much looking forward to it. It was a hot 80 degree sunny day..... I hope your friends aren't travelling too far to meet you in case of disappointment. You could be OK, but remember its not 100% guaranteed you will dock here, and quite a few ships can't over the season. Sue
Barbarella Posted September 27, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2007 Hi, We were however lucky then when we did the Med on Arcadia a few weeks after Sue in August as we did anchor and went ashore via the tenders. It was a lovely day and the sea was calm. However, I would like to point out that because it was a Saturday and because the weather was so glorious, the beach area was packed and therefore the world and his wife were all out on their leisurecraft, ie speedboats, yachts, jet skis, etc., etc. We had an aft balcony and couldn't believe the amount of people coming up to the ship to nose around and keep circling around, showing off and waving to all on board. Because of this and the constant swell from their constant 'cruising' around Arcadia it made it very difficult for the tenders, especially when they were trying to embark and disembark passengers from Arcadia because of the constant wave movement caused by their craft. So much so, that one of the crew smashed his hand between the tender and Arcadia when we were trying to disembark:eek: the constant waves really buffetted you against the tender dock so I can understand why they are cautious of this. A slighter rougher sea and it would be too difficult. It is not necessarily the swell of the ocean, but more the problems brought on by the endless array of small boating craft constantly circling the ship so as Sue says, it can never be guaranteed. I would think that if you were due to be in Cannes on a week day, there would be less sealeisure craft around as they should be at work;) We were lucky and really enjoyed Cannes, one of our favourite ports of the whole cruise. Hope this helps, Kind regards, Babs
