Phenzor Posted September 27, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2007 Hey gang, My father is going with me and my wife on a cruise to Cozumel (leaving Sunday 9/30 - so short notice). He requires an electric scooter to get around in. I'm trying to decide what we can do with him in Cozumel. He refuses to get off the ship if it is a tender port, and I can understand his concerns. He needs fairly firm ground to use the scooter on, so soft sand is out, but a hard packed sand area would be fine. Can't remember how the sidewalks were in Coz, but always picture most islands as having very narrow sidewalks and not always having 'ramps' at the intersections. Any (quick) advice would help. Thanks, Brian
FishermanJim Posted September 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2007 Most the entire waterfront boulevard (R.E.Melgar) is friendly the handicapped, wheelchair accessible and all corners have ramps for easy access to the sidewalks. Presently in the center of the town there is a lot of remodelling however and the side streets are hardly passable on foot, so there is little likelihood his chair or cart will be able to get through. The main plaza and Punta Langosta mall as well as the majority of the waterfront will be comfortable for him to maneuver however.
Phenzor Posted September 29, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted September 29, 2007 Thanks for the info - I feel better now 'dragging' him off the ship.
