Best place to eat......

We have always eaten at the Latin American Cafeteria, which is a Cuban restaurant. They have tables outside on the deck overlooking the bay, or you can eat inside. We had lunch there then the next day before our cruise, we went there for breakfast. You're right in saying the Cuban restaurants are very inexpensive compared to others.

Dinner we went to Bubba Gumps as a group. One time we went to another restaurant in Bayside, some Brazilian restaurant, but it's closed now. I heard it has reopened as The Knife.

I would not go to downtown Miami at night, stick with the beach and bay areas which are well policed. I grew up down there and it is not a safe place at night.

No major city is safe at night, whether its New York City or San Diego, anywhere where there are tourist there will be crime. Just take the basic precautions and you will be ok.

I'm with Fred when it comes to Cuban food where else but Miami AVe Ocho can you get truely authentic Cuban food. We go to La Caretta a few blocks futher down Ave Oho from Versailles...I think they are owned by the same people but La caretta is a little more casual and they have a Cuban Coffee bar on the side of the restaurant .... take a cab down there.... so much better than touristy bayside

Paris at night was very safe, especially near Les Invalides and the Pont d'Alexandre - wish I were there right now! Even NYC seemed okay at night. There were several police in the Times Square area when we were there in November. DC - Georgetown, the Memorials, and near the wharf is okay. Same w/ the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, but go a few blocks and not safe at all.
