We're taking a cruise in May 2008. Trying to decide which Ruin site would be best. We're trying to decide between the Mayan Ruins of Tulum in Cozumel or the Xunantunich site in Belize. Suggestions and Feedback please.

The trick is finding out how far the ruin is from each of the towns. look at how long the trip last, sometimes the ride on the bus to the ruins is very long and you spend your whole time in port on a bus. We went on one in Playa Del Carmen to Chokchoben (spelling) the bus ride was not too long, but we did not get to go into the ruin's, they are like a pyramid. you just walk around outside of them while a tour guide tells you about it. I Would not do another ruin trip it was ok, but not very exciting.

Tulum should be closer for you since Belize is further south. Tulum is not on the island of Cozumel though, just so you're aware. You'll need to take the ferry over to Playa Del Carmen, then head south.

Tulum is GORGEOUS, as the ruins are situated on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean. The Mayans were smart when they picked that location! :)
