SunnyinMA Posted October 2, 2007 #27 Share Posted October 2, 2007 Hard Rock is only a few blocks from the pier. Was there about a month ago. If I remember correctly when off the ship make a left....go about 2 blocks and head up another block or two. Very close. Also I would suggest stopping into Senor Frogs. We had a BLAST in there. Someone also asked about a fast food place. There is a Wendys a few blocks from the pier. Not to sure were exactly but wasnt far from the ship. Im sure once you off ship you could ask someone. Thank you!!
MarriedInStThomas1807 Posted October 3, 2007 #28 Share Posted October 3, 2007 I agree.. I wouldn't want to go to a fast food place in a foreign land unless I was in a major hurry. But we did go to Taco Bell in the San Juan airport. Not as good as Taco Bell here:p
Thirsty Cruiser Posted October 3, 2007 #29 Share Posted October 3, 2007 I know this sounds like a totally stupid question, but is there a Taco Bell within walking distance of where the ship docks? I don't recall seeing a Taco Bell, but if you would like to try something a little more local, walk to the left once you get off the pier for a couple of hundred yards and you will come to a truck selling authentic Puerto Rican "fast food". Try the fried bacalao "cakes", tostones, or fried corn cakes. Sorry, I don't have the spanish translation, but there are pictures of each item on the menu, and they were very forgiving of my bad spanish. I would never eat at a Taco Bell myself, I am sending a package to a crew member & wanted to include certificates from Taco Bell since they are a tenant of mine. Now, could anyone answer my question? jennbill Posted October 4, 2007 #42 Share Posted October 4, 2007 We would never book a cruise that didn't include a full day in San Juan. There is so much to see and do there. The Puerto Rican cuisine is very good. Try mofungo (sp?). It's very good. Good evening options in San Juan include Senor Frog's, the casinos, walking around old San Juan and so much more. There is a really good brewpub not too far from the pier. We love San Juan.
flyingb Posted October 4, 2007 #43 Share Posted October 4, 2007 I will be sailing to San Juan in March 2008. Our boat is docked from 5pm - midnight. What are some fun things to do in the evening. Are there stores open at night? DH & I will also be in SJ in March '08. Our Son and wife were there on a land based trip and did a trip with kayaks or canoes. Bioluminecience,(sp) anyway what ever it was. It was in the water and couldn't be seen 'til dark. They were taken there by locals. I plan to find out if they have a commercial tour. Sounded like fun. :) Luv's Crusin'
flyingb Posted October 4, 2007 #44 Share Posted October 4, 2007 I found this after I posted. http://www.biobay.com/cd/webhtml/right.htm Seems that the color has something to do with the moons phase. Check it out. Luv's Crusin'

We'll be there again in June '08 but our ship leaves in the afternoon then.
PaulMedik Posted October 4, 2007 #46 Share Posted October 4, 2007 Just found this on Carnival's website, CLICK HERE Our youngest son will be seven (Min age is 8) and I'm sure they won't make an exception, so we may have to find a private tour operator. Minn.cruisers Posted October 5, 2007 #47 Share Posted October 5, 2007 The ship offers the Biobay kayak tours. It's your chance to do it when in San Juan that late at night. An opportunity of a lifetime, we're doing it in December (no moon that night), so the luminous dinoflaggelates should be amazing.

Minn.cruisers Posted October 6, 2007 #49 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Well hi MarriedInStThomas couple from Minnesota. We're from northern Mn about 50 miles NE of Duluth, a little town called Gilbert. Have you been to SJ? We can't wait to go, and at a good time (December), should be about -10 here in MN at that time.:D Have fun on your Anniversary cruise in Jan. (also a good time to go, should be -20 here in MN at that time)
RhondaC Posted October 7, 2007 #50 Share Posted October 7, 2007 We're from northern Mn about 50 miles NE of Duluth, a little town called Gilbert. Hi Minn.cruisers and MarriedinStThomas1807! We're from MN, and we just got back from a week in Lutsen last month! We moved down to FL about 3 years ago. Easier to cruise from here! :D We've been to SJ once. It was early enough to visit El Morrow, then walk back down the hill and have dinner at the Parrot place (forgot the name, lol). We'll be in SJ in March, on the Mariner, from 3-10. I'm not sure what we'll do yet. Probably just walk around OSJ and see everything, then have a nice dinner someplace.
