Van Tours in Skagway

Has anyone taken a tour of the area along the WhitePass Klondike Hwy using Southeast tours, Frontier excursions, or any other private tour company. My family of four wants an alternative to the railroad and we don't feel like renting a car but want to see scenery. Any suggestions? Is it necessary to rent ahead of time or can you rent in port? We will be there on June 22nd.

We took the Yukon tour through Frontier less than two weeks ago and had a great time. It was the 3.5 hour tour that goes into the Yukon (just barely) on the White Pass Highway. Our tour guide was originally from Belfast and was a true Irish storyteller. There were many opportunites for photo stops and it was just a nice relaxed time in some very beautiful country. It was $55 and a great bargain compared to the tours offered by the cruiseline. We were on (the ill-fated) Diamond Princess and were picked up at the end of the pier. It was our first stop in Alaska and a great tour. I highly recommend it.

I didn't address your question about when you can reserve... We called the week before we left, but there were a couple people who joined at the pier. They do allow you to cancel up to 24 hours ahead, so you could probably cancel by email from the ship if you had to.

We took a longer tour with Frontier Excursions. The Yukon Discovery tour includes Emerald Lake. The Yukoner is a shorter tour that goes just past the White Pass Summitt.
