Elation Review 09/27-10/01

We were a group of 6, 3 couples, all in our late 20's. Three of us (including myself) have cruised in the past, and it was a first cruise for the other three.

Embarkment was very easy and smooth. We arrived around 12 pm, and were on the Lido deck at 12:15.....They did have us shake our water bottles to prove that they did not contain alcohol, but they did not give us any issues with our carry on water, soda or one bottle of wine each. We did all smuggle alcohol in our checked luggage with no incident. Upon arriving on the Lido deck we all enjoyed very strong DOD's and had some food from the Grill that was good, not great but good.

I enjoyed the Ship, I had been on the Pride prior and was worried that I would notice the size difference but I did not. Only the casino felt noticably smaller. Although I liked the decor, which yes was a bit over the top and cheesy, I felt it added to the fun atmosphere, but I wasn't looking for fancy in decor I was looking for fun. That being said I did not like the layout of the boat. I just found it confusing. I much preferred the layout of the Pride to the Elation....I just couldn't really get my barrings of where to go, and got turned around often.

Staff - Although we did not have any "bad" service, I don't really feel that we had any "exception" service either. Our stewart and wait staff were efficant, but nothing really "above and beyond". So no complaints but no really stand out excellence either. As for the CD, the same goes.....when we were on the Pride last year our CD was WEE JIMMY and WEE JIMMY was all over that ship, I had to run into him 10 times aday and we loved him. As for Stuart Dunn....I literally did NOT see him around with the exception of at the entance of the Captains party....at no point did I see him walking around talking to people etc.......but no actual complaints about him specifically.....

Entertainment - There was something to do for everyone.....we participated in the "Newlywed not so newlywed game"....that was a blast....our friend participated in the "Harry chest" contest.....otherwise we pretty much spent the majority our our time hanging out at the pool and in the Casino in the evenings.....There was a younger croud on this boat, lots of partiers, and a good time had by most.....The casino was decently good to us....we played Roulette and Blackjack....now typically I enjoy how the casino on ship is more kick back then say Vegas, but this trip that was a bit too much, for example on two occasions the dealer in blackjack misdelt the cards, also the card machine in one 15 minute span had to be replaced 3 times....Pitboss yelling at dealers right by the tables, I just felt it was a bit sloppy, but we came out ok moneywise....

Cabo was perfect, not too hot as it can be this time of the year....we spent the majority of our time at Medano Beach, the atmosphere was fun there, lots of activities and we spent most of the time in the water which was perfect and hard to leave.....

Food was good, I wasn't expecting 5 star and was not dissapointed....My honey had 6 lobster tails on formal night...I had chocolate melting cake EVERY night which was so wonderful....We did all notice though, that while the seafood and pasta dishes were fine, the beef was often a bit lacking....did not eat at the buffet, as I am not a buffet person, but Pizza, sandwiches, room service and the dining room were all wonderful.

Overall it was a fun time....no not the best cruise I have been on, not everything was perfect, but as always it was what you make of it....we had fun, we will go again, but probably not again on the Elation until after it gets drydocked.....but I would cruise again with Carnival.

Any questions, please feel free to ask......

One thing I forgot to mention.....Our friends were in room E172 and I have to say, that that room had an aweful smell to it, its directly across from Room Service and it smelled like rotten food then entire trip, if you have that room and can switch....do so......

We did not bring a corkscrew, we simply asked our stewart for one, and he brought in ice (as we also had Champagne) and extra glasses. We also took a bottle to the cigar lounge and they also provided us with the necessities. Although, I believe technically they could charge you a corking fee in a resturant, they have never charged us one.

As for Medano Beach....We simply took a water taxi there right from the pier, we paid $3 per person. Once at Medano Beach, there are chairs with umbrellas, a few bars/resturants, rentals for jetskis, banana boats, and parasailing and water taxis back to the pier. I REALLY enjoyed Medano beach and would definetly go back there again....the only bad thing about Cabo for us, was that we had to leave......

Thanks........we want to spend some time in the water while in Cabo. Also would like to see Cabo Wabo for the heck of it.

Cabo Wabo is about a 10 minute walk from Medano beach if you're up for it... you just go up and and down the dirt road--ask someone where the mall is-- go through the mall, keep walking west on the main street (towards the ship) and you'll see a bar on the opposite side of the main road...it's called Slim's Elbow Room. It's the smallest bar in the world and has about 4 bar stools and beer and tequila. Stop there before or after Cabo Wabo, which is right around the corner from Slim's!

I'd be jealous of your cruise except that I'll be in Cabo for 4 days on the 13th!

The 11th is when we'll be there. Thanks for the info on Slims. I think I read somewhere the 12th is Sammy Hagars birthday and he will be performing at Cabo Wabo that day

Talked with some locals in Cabo. When Sammy's in town to perform at Cabo Wabo they camp in line for 2 or 3 days just to get in. Good luck;)

I read that too. We will be there the day before so we will miss it anyway. Would be fun though.

Slims is sooo small we walked right past it on the way over lol!:p

Taxi ride was $4.00 for 4 of us from Cabo Wabo to Medano beach.

He performed there last year on his bday....it was a shame we had to get back to the boat JUST before he played, but we saw him....I heard he spends all of October there, but didn't know if he would this year due to his touring.....have fun there, hit up the gigglin Marlin too if you have a chance, in my opinion its better then Cabo Wabo, I think Cabo Wabo is just more hipe.....have a great trip....
