zaxmomm Posted October 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2007 We will be in port (Charlotte Amalie) on St. Thomas on November 21st. We'd like to go to St. John's for the day and are considering renting a car/jeep once we get there. I've seen it discussed here, but never any info on how and where to rent the vehicle. Can someone give details. Thanks.
Kviolasr Posted October 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2007 I would strongly recommend renting at on St. Thomas at Havensight (there are a couple of places within walking distance) and taking the car ferry over to St. John. We've done this several times, it is very convenient because you have your transportation on both islands taken care of. The car ferry ticket includes up to four passengers and the car ferries run at least every hour or so. We like the option of being able to make a quick run into Charlotte Amalie after returning from the day on St. John.....
Lyncruiser Posted October 10, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2007 We simply rented a car when we got off the ferry. We asked and a nice person (whom we tipped) took us to a booth a block or so away from the ferry dock. Driving was pleasant and easy -- not too much traffic. I'd rather rent at St. John that try to rent in St. Thomas, drive to Red Hook and then ferry it.
tada Posted October 10, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2007 We used Courtesy Car Rental the last time we were there. We made a reservation before hand on their website http://www.courtesycarrental.com/. But, we could have also just got one there when we arrived. The rental car companies are within walking distance of the ferry. Left hand drive, and you drive on the left in St. John - shoulder to the curb.
