Can't swim unless Potty Trained?!?

:) We went on the Crown in December ,2006 and there was a kiddie pool outside the kids club area that was designated for the non-potty trained crowd. Not ALL princess ships have this option, but the crown does. You have to call Princess to find out which ships have this option.

Are you SURE about this? I have been on many cruiselines with "Children's Pools" but that does NOT make them "diapered infant/toddler pools"

Carnival has kiddie pools, kids must be potty trained to use them.

So are you sure they specified this area on the Crown for diapered kids?

it is a tad insane that cruise lines like RCI charge the same for a 2 year old as a 10 year old...they don't use the facilities or eat the same amount of food as another older guest...but I guess them's the breaks!

Not really. They actually charge for the amount of "souls" onboard. A ship can only hold so many souls. And since a 2 year old isn't spending money drinking, shopping or playing in the casino (at least we would hope not...lol ;) ) then the cruiselines don't make the same amount of money back off the baby as they do an adult.

You'll see that although Disney charges a "discounted" price for 2 year olds, the price for the adults in the cabin on a Disney ship will be MUCH more than say, a Carnival cruise.

And the only ones to charge a discounted price is NCL (pay taxes/port fees), Disney (pay a discounted rate which was MORE expensive then the 3rd/4th person on other ships), and on Costa (kids sail free on some sailings)

The rest of the mainstream cruiselines charge full 3rd/4th person rate. Which can be as cheap as $99 and as expensive as $1200, pending on what you are cruising on.

And as a quick comparison, I paid $899 for my 4 year old on Disney. I paid $499 for my 8 MONTH old on Disney. I paid $199 for my kids on Carnival. And $499 for them on RCCL (they'll be 8 and 4 years old).

Hi. I am sorry but I didn't see the picture of the baby zone. Could you please put the picture up again. Sorry.

So that is neat that the babies have a place to play in the water too. And what I meant was any age baby so if you had like a 14 month old then this would be the pool for them. That is a good idea.

Was just curious how they kept it sanitary but you are right there must be a way.

I know my parents have a pool and the baby gets into it (not by himself of course) lol..... He has a swim diaper of course it is just him and not like a bunch of babies. And the pool is clorinated. Maybe that is how they do it, they chlorinate that one pool instead of using sea water.

I also thought the bringing our own pool was good.

If the cruiselines tried to have passengers pay according to how much they were going to eat or what facilities they were going to use, there would be too many price structures, which would ruin the whole nature of cruising. Your 2 year old also isn't going to pay for any drinks at the bar, or spend much money on board, so the cruise line could be making much more money having an adult instead. (I'm sure the cruise line would love to figure out a way to charge more for people who don't use the casinos!)

Yes, Mia...I understand that logic...but the cruise line isn't going to put another adult who will pay for drinks and gamble in my room, are they? LOL ;)

They would if they could! :)

But in reality, they can only carry a limited number of passengers - even if they have more beds available. So even if there is a cabin with four beds available, if they're near capacity, they'll only be able to accept two people in that cabin - even though there's room for four. So the baby in your room does eliminate one chance for them to sell to a drinking/gambling/excursion-buying adult - and I'm sure someone else out there can explain this much better! I need a cruise...

Mia

You explained it exactly right. There are times when I am looking at rooms like a Grand Suite that CAN hold up to 5 people. But because of the number of "souls" onboard including children, I can't book that cabin on that ship with my fam of 4. They take the number allowed in that cabin down to 2 so they don't go over the allowed number on the total ship.

Here's the Baby Zone (RCCL should be paying me for this :p )

Ok well where you said it is right above I looked right above and did not see a pic, I went back and looked and did not see a pic... so I tried.

Now I am looking at this quote and still see no pic so maybe it is me... alas maybe I am not meant to be able to see the baby zone.

no matter. thanks anyway for your generosity in posting a pic for the 4th time. I know it is a lot of work to do so.

Exactly, Michelle. To be a tad dramatic... think about the Titanic. That's where the "souls on board" thing originated. Today, the Coast Guard regulations reflect that horrible tragedy (in which they had enough time to evacuate a ship that was clearly going down, but not enough lifeboats to hold all of the passengers and crew, yet that was perfectly legal under the then-applicable laws). So the Coast Guard counts "seats on the lifeboat" in each "sector" of the ship as the criterion for occupancy of the cabins assigned to that sector. An infant counts the same for that as an adult -- it's not actually about drink-buying or gambling. It's about "if the worst happens, how do we save everyone (if time permits)?"

Hopefully, on your cruise, my post is the last time you actually have to consider that question. But even in these modern times, cruise ships do sink -- the Sea Diamond last summer did, and the finger-pointing about why is still going on. Within the last two weeks, the Spirit of Nantucket struck an uncharted underwater obstacle during an Eastern US Coast cruise -- and her quick-thinking captain ran her aground as soon as he could because they couldn't stop her taking on water. Those passengers experienced some inconvenience, but no lives were lost.

Let me post a link for you to see the Baby Zone...hopefully this works.

I can see your avator pictures. But that is it. No other pictures are showing up. Am 100 % sure it is my computer. There is a little "done but with errors" message so am sure that is what it is. Thank you very much anyway. I am at work and websense is blocking the photobucket page. Will try it from home tonight. Appreciate your help very much.
