FYI, the Alaska Railroad website (www.akrr.com) has just been updated to reflect Summer, 2008 information. As part of our independent ground touring in June '08, DW & I will be doing Seward-Anchorage & later Denali-Anchorage on the AKRR.

Thanks for the information. We are planning to use in June. I was thinking of the purchasing the coupon book that has a 2 for 1 for the railroad. We need only one way but using the coupon is cheap to buy the roundtrip ticket about $30 savings. Have anyone ever tried this?

What coupon book are you talking about & where do you get them?

The Northern Lights Coupon book the only thing is it's not valid for the ARR for mid-June to mid-Aug.

I went on the akrr site and didn't see an updated site. Am I missing something?

Under "Passengers", then "Fares/Schedules" it shows the schedule and fares for the 2008 season. When I went to "Book Online" - it didn't show 2008 as being available to book.

This might be a stupid question, but I am having a hard time deciphering the Glacier Discovery Train 2008 Schedule. I want to go from Whittier to Anchorage. What time does it depart and arrive based on the 2008 schedule posted on the website? If I am reading it correctly it departs from Whittier at 6:45pm and arrives at Anchorage at 9:15?

 

If this is true, would you suggest spending the day in Whittier and take the train to Anchorage at night...or take a shuttle bus in the morning to Anchorage and spend the day in Anchorage? We plan on flying out the next day from Anchorage (maybe we will spend an extra day there)
