Seward July 4th

Has anyone been in Seward over the 4th of July? We understand there is a race, etc. and are trying to decide if this is a place we want to be or avoid on the 4th.

Some people love it but my wife and I think it's a zoo on that day. Really depends on how much you like crowds.

On the same note (but 100+ miles away): How is July 4th in Anchorage? Any special celebration, parade, blocked areas?

In the past there have been some parades in downtown Anchorage plus fireworks at midnight on July 4 (evening of July 3). You might want to check out http://www.anchorage.net to see what might be listed.

We rerouted last year over the 4th. We were doing our pre cruise tour and ended up going to Homer for the 4th (not crowded at all). We actually fished on that day. It was great. Then we headed to Seward on the 5th and spent two nights. We wanted to avoid the crowds because you couldn't do alot of the touristy stuff.
