are kids welcome for evening activities?

I am taking my 11 year old son on the Pearl Nov. 11. Is he allowed to come to some of the evening entertainment with me? This is my second cruise and his first. My husband is staying home and I am nervous about spending time together. I know he will want to do the kids activities in the daytime.

On every cruise I've been on, there will be a note in the daily program as to any evening show or activity that is not appropriate for children (usually some comedians or adult game shows that may get a little spicy). Otherwise, your child is welcome. Also, there will sometimes be a note that children are not allowed in the first rows of the theater - I guess so as not to disturb the performers - but I've found it's easier to sit in back anyway.

Have a great trip!

Best,

Mia

Yeah that! If it's not appropriate for kids, then you will know beforehand by reading the daily newsletter.

Of course they are allowed. BUT, be sure to read the daily because many lines don't allow kids to sit in the first 2 to 4 rows in the main theater. And usually, the late night comedian is not appropriate and neither is the Newlywed game---that can get pretty NC 17 rated, at times.

Thanks for your answers. I was hoping for some fun times with him. He is wondering if there will be anyone to hang out with during the day. I am a little concerned there won't be very many kids since it is the school year but, it is a chance I didn't want to pass up. My hours will only get busier at work this may be my only chance for a "real" vacation with him.

I just wanted to add that my kids really love the evening activities. They love the show....usually music they've heard of even though not what they regularly listen to. They also have enjoyed the them parities. Both my kids 9 and 11 love the 50's party and the out door deck parties offered on the Celebrity cruises.

I'm not sure what NCL offers in the evenings but I'm sure it will be fun. I love to do Karaoke, but often when they do it on cruises they make it adults only to participate, but then they offer another time that is for kids or family.

I hope you and your son have a wonderful time on the cruise. I know that I would have a great time with either of my kids.

What cruise line are you referring to? My kids and their friends always sit in the first row and it's never been a problem. Why wouldn't kids be allowed to sit up front?

Check out the Roll Call for your sailing. If other families are traveling with kids set up a "kids" roll call. This lets the kids chat and get to know each other better. Set up a time for the kids to meet once on board. Then your son will have "instant friends."

We've done this for the past couple of cruises and it's a great way to break the ice for kids.

I agree about the roll calls - on our last cruise, we met a family on the roll call with a daughter the same age as ours and they were practically siamese twins for the whole week! ha ha ha

On NCL, there is a fantastic kid's program. For every age group, there are designated staff members who organize and supervise the activities. If you don't meet anyone beforehand on the roll calls, that first night at the kid's crew orientation, you'll likely see all the kids and he'll have the opportunity to meet them. Because of the way our daughter and her friend got along, they spent most of their time together not in the kid's club, but they went the first night, and I'm pretty sure every other child on the ship was there as well. I actually think if they'd been on our next cruise they would have spent more time there, simply because in December the ship we were on was older and hadn't been designed with the amenities that the Star has.

In short (as if I could ever write a short post. ha ha ha), I don't think you or your son have anything to worry about. Check out this link to see the kinds of activities he'll have to choose from:

I have also found pics of the kid's areas on the Star and I can post that link if you're interested. I'm sure you can find some of the Pearl if you do a little searching, but my understanding is that her kid's areas are even more extensive than the Star's, so at least they'd give you some idea of what to expect. Just let me know.

Have fun!!! :)

I've just come back from a cruise with my 10 yo. he went to the kids club most nights because thats what he wanted to do. a couple of nights he went with us to some evening entertainment - or joined my wife and I for dinner whilst his little sister was in her kids clubs. we left it to him to decide.

there were a couple of things that he couldn;t have gone to but we worked it that those were the nights he was in the club or having a late dinner with us.

as others have mentioned the daily will indicate which shows are not suitable.

enjoy.

Of all the kids' programs, my children liked the one on Norwegian Star the best. There were 600 kids on that cruise, and the counselors still made it absolutely wonderful for my extremely shy children with some of the most creative activities I have ever seen.

Even in mid-November, though, there are plenty of children on a Caribbean cruise. In fact, my shy children made better friendships when there were smaller groups of kids ... although they didn't enjoy Carnival's activities as much as Norwegian's.

I remember that I was nervous about taking my children on our first cruise. Don't worry. The kids' programs are generally run 9am-12pm, 2pm-5pm, and 7pm-10pm. That time in between is perfect for enjoying time together, eating lunch, swimming, and catching each other up on all the wonderful experiences. After our break together, my kids were always excited to go back to camp, and I LOVED my personal free time.

Be sure to attend orientation for the kids' program the first night on ship. It's a great way to get your son excited about the program, to meet some other kids and the counselors, and to ease the comfort level for both of you.

My daughter enjoyed going to the evening shows with me while my younger son stayed in camp. We also did some other activities together like dancing, karaoke, and bead-making. Children can be found at nearly every activity except bars (after 9pm), casinoes, those R-rated shows, and specific hot tubs or pools that are designated for adults only.
