lmondrop Posted August 31, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2004 We are supposed to be leaving in 4 days on our western Carribean cruise....but this stupid hurricane has everyone on hold...So now what's supposed to be the most fun....anticipating, planning, packing, getting ready is overshadowed by doubts of even leaving at all becuase of this hurricane. I feel like I have become a meteorologist and know everything there is to know about hurricanes, high pressure ridges, low pressure fronts...Etc... Worse I'm worried about my house flyign away in this crazy storm!
Cruising89143 Posted August 31, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2004 Here is the latest from the National Hurricane Center. She is going directly over Port Canaveral if she stay on this course. Not good!!!
poolgal Posted August 31, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2004 Try and relax, its too unpredictable at the moment. Two years ago I sailed on The Grand Princess and 2 (did I say 2) Hurricanes were colliding. I too became a bit of a hurricane specialist for a brief time. It was all for not! The Grand sailed right between them, we had some of the best weather I have ever had on a cruise. Just perfect! It will be ok :)))) Keep packing! karenh1127 Posted August 31, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2004 I hope you get to go. Unfortunately, I just saw the latest report and it is predicting a hit on Floriday this weekend! People are being advised to leave already so as not to cause a huge traffic jam. It seems that the storm is in the very waters where the ship will go and I wouldnt want to be out there. We planned our cruise in March so as not to have to worry about hurricanes. Good Luck!

pungo3 Posted September 1, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 1, 2004 lmondrop, go and have a great time. They won't put the ship and passengers in harm's way. Keep us posted if you hear anything from your TA about port changes, etc. :)
PINEVIEW01 Posted September 1, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2004 I'm suppose to leave Sunday. Flying into FLL and driving to Miami. Doesn't look like I'll be able to. This was my once in a life time 15 day cruise thru the Panama Canal. I'll be crying, praying and packing tonight. (Just in case) Melody

Keep us posted if you hear anything from your TA about port changes, etc. :) As soon as I get any information from my TA I will post it and let you guys know. I spoke with Carnival this morning and as of yet we are still go....but we really won't know until Friday what changes or (EEEK  ) cancelations will be done. Keep your fingers crossed.... DebBrown Posted September 1, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 1, 2004 Bottom line, Carnival does NOT want to put you in danger's way nor do they want to lose the revenue from a cruise ship full of people. You can bet they are making alternative plans. They could easily bus you to Tampa to leave and still keep your same itinerary with maybe a port change at the beginning of your cruise. I can understand your concern and I would be upset as well but please also keep in mind that people across the state of Florida are just beginning to see daylight from Charley less than three weeks ago. For central Florida to take another beating would be devestation at it's worst. That may not help with your concern over your vacation and again, I would be upset as well but even if it is cancelled, Carnival will make right by it. I wish CCL could do the same for the hurricane victims.
dotcruiser Posted September 1, 2004 #10 Share Posted September 1, 2004 I sympathise with all of you, but just feel blessed you don't live in Volusia County (like I do, between Orlando and Daytona Beach) it's here we go again. We haven't finished cleaning from Charley! This one is a big one,and we will be heading to Tampa area where hubby works. I am so concerned about this one, my house may not be here when we get back. But my family will be with me, and that's all that count. I hope everyone gets to cruise and just tie things up and go and hope for the best. John and I was in Jamaica on a cruise when Floyd came around. All the eastern cruise ships came to us and it was crowded, but it was fine. It didn't damper our fun. We tried calling our families and couldn't get thru. Thank God, our house was still intack when we returned. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Pray for me, please! captaincrash Posted September 1, 2004 #11 Share Posted September 1, 2004 We're sailing on DCL - for Saturday departure! They have forewarned us we may be moving the embarkation - but we don't know WHERE yet. Another board posting (Belle) suggested the Magic (our boat) is too tall to fit under a bridge in Tampa so we may not be able to use it as a staging port. HOwever, I just got off the line with a DCL rep this morning who suggested Tampa was a potential solution for meeting our ship. Belle stated she was a DCL rep 3 years ago - so I'm uncertain which to consider as a likely potential possibility! So far - the ONLY site I am watch is the NOAA National Weather service site. Has anyone else found another useful site for gathering reliable info? At any rate, I'm enjoying the egar anticipation and still looking forward to an interesting and fun filled vacation in a couple of days! We will be hoping and praying for everyone sharing the storm's path with us! Any useful posts are appreciated!
