Taking a 2 day cruise on Princess in May, flighing in 2 days early and have reservations at the Holiday Inn on the Bay, seems like a good location but reviews of hotel are only so-so. Any body have any suggestions for Hotels in the same area. Price around 200 per night

We love the Sheraton on Harbor Island (WEST WING!!!!)......bayside....what a view of the Harbor!

When will you be here (exact dates - sometimes there is a convention in town - that will affect price)?

 

Will you have car (some hotels have packages that include parking)?

from time to time you can get great rates at the Manchester Grand Hyatt...its a great hotel and right by seaport village and a short distance from the embarcadero

We were able to get the Omni for $135/night through Priceline for the 2 day stay before our cruise next month. You may want to go that route to snag a nice 4* place cheap.

I am not sure of the price but Embassy Suites is right across the street from Seaport Village

We will be flying into San Diego the day before our cruise and would like to find a hotel with both an airport shuttle and a shuttle to the pier the next day. Can anyone recommend a couple of places that fit the bill?

We got the Omni at such a good rate, we figured we could pay for a taxi and still come out ahead. Sometimes the hotel shuttles are awfully slow from the airport, and overbooked to the pier. Nancy

Out of curiosity, what was the rate you got? I pricelined the Omni for $135 and at the time thought I could have done better. However, I just checked the rates again and a room there is now going for $300 and higher! :eek: Guess $135 isn't so bad after all.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Bay several times. Most recently was last weekend.

 

It is a busy hotel but the rooms are nice, view is stunning and the restaurants are good. Also lots of other restaurants nearby. Plus there is a mini market that is great for last minute things. They have airport pickup and you just walk to the ship in the morning.

 

The Holiday Inn Downtown (1617 First) was nice, too. Reasonable rates, shuttle from airport and pier, room clean and friendly staff. There is a store right across the street. Only downside is that the hotel restaurant (more like a serve yourself place) is expensive (dinners $13+) and there are no other places within walking distance. We did have room service (Cobb Salads $9.95) that were okay.

Just remember, we just had a major, major fire. More than 1200 homes were destroyed. Many people's insurance is paying for them to have extended stays at hotels. Rooms will be scarce for quite a while and there probably won't be too many available on Priceline or at a discount.

I think more of the extended stay guests are at areas outside of Downtown...I know that most of the guests staying at our hotel will be out to places a bit more homey in no more than 2-2 and a half weeks...

Our cruise next year, we got a group rate of # 20 + at the HI Bayside with car, 10 days free parking, $ 5 after.. the HI on the Bay across from Terminal wants $20/day if you have your car.

We booked the Best Western Bayside for one night pre-cruise in Feb. Their website showed $169/night. We booked on the San Diego Convention and Visitor's Bureau site for $97.74. You had to pre-pay the reservation... but.. it did save us alot.

we are thinking of staying at the Holiday Inn on the Bay, could you tell me if there was parking nearby, on the street, or a reasonable lot? I've been told that the hotel has self parking? We are not cruising from San Diego (from L.A.) but will be staying there for a few days pre-cruise and will have a rental car. The reviews on Trip Advisor are very mixed......what floor/section of the hotel did you stay?

 

Any info/tips would be greatly appreciated....thanks :)

Hi, Leosmom. We have had both city and bay view rooms. Both were just fine. Of course, the price break is on the city view and you will hear the trains. They even supply you with ear plugs. We didn't really notice the noise. The rooms are spacious and clean. No frige or safe:( . The hotel seems to always be busy. There is a nice coffee stand, Elephant and Castle restaurant and pub, a deli, a gift shop and mini store, Ruth Chris steakhouse and a little botique on the property. Across the street there are more restaurants.

 

There is a parking lot and it looks like it is valet parking. You may want to inquire with the hotel. Never used the parking.

 

If a person is cruising out of San Diego, I would give the hotel 5 stars. If you are just staying there, then I would give it 3.5 stars. Personally, I would seriously look at the Hard Rock deal that hommebronze posted.

It sounds like a nice hotel, it was recomended to us by a friend who cruised out of San Diego (they got it through Priceline).

We will take your advice and check into other hotels in the downtown area also.

I just tried to get April 6, 2008 reservations at the HI on the Bay. They say no availability. Anyone know what is going on that weekend? It may hit all other hotels also.

I've stayed at The Sofia, which is a historic building that has recently been renovated. The rooms are kind of small, but beautiful, the location is good (walking distance to almost everything) and the staff was wonderful! Comparitively speaking, the price was pretty reasonable, too. It is just a few blocks up from the waterfront (almost straight up from the port). No airport shuttle, but the cab fare is only about $10, plus tip. Would be even less back to the port (although if you are real determined to avoid the cab fare, and depending on how much luggage you have, you could walk).

 

San Diego is a beautiful city. No matter where you end up staying, enjoy the visit!!
