Info on obstructed views?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

We just booked a Spring Cruise on the Monarch of the Seas in an OV cabin on deck 8. This is our first cruise on RCI. We've cruised on Carnival and Holland America before. We were told all staterooms on deck 8 on the MOS have an obstructed view. We personally like to be on a higher deck when cruising so we opted for the cheaper obstructed view cabin. Does anyone know what the obstruction is? Will we be seeing lifeboats outside our window?

Yes it will be an over the lifeboat view. Deck seven is the Promenade deck on Monarch and the lifeboats are lower from above which is the Marine or deck eight. We've had such a view before on Princess and others. The bad thing about RC's deckplans is that most don't show the lifeboats and tenders positions. They do on Princess ones so you can pick a cabin with a better obstructed view like between two lifeboats or over the bow of a lifeboat. Avoid the the back third of the obstructed cabins if possible since that is where normally the larger tender boats are and the view will be more limited with these in front.
