We are doing the Los Veranos Canopy tour and I believe will be let off at the Canopy office when it is over at 3:30. We have massages scheduled at Krystals for 5:00. Is this walking distance or do we need to take a cab?

Thanks so much!

See the maps on this site for reference - The Los Veranos office is located at the little green gas pump, lower center, of this map. http://www.vallarta-info.com/south.html

The Krystal is located just below the cruise ship (marine) terminal on this map. http://www.vallarta-info.com/hotelzone.html

It's a very long walk and involves several sections of road that have heavy traffic and no sidewalks. We stay at the Sheraton, just north of the downtown area, and would never think of walking to the Marine Terminal (and we walk just about everywhere!) Take a cab. Yellow cab rates are by zone with up to four people per cab.

You might consider walking to the Flea Market (easy walk) and taking a cab from there. The river is one of the cab zone lines and the fare drops $1.50 USD when you cross it.

Enjoy!

thank you for the info and the links to the maps. Would it be a fairly easy walk from the canopy office to the El Malecon?

Yes, it is an easy walk to the Malecon from the Los Veranos office. Reference this map – http://www.vallarta-info.com/south.html

From the gas station, walk north two blocks on INSURGENTES to the intersection with BASILIO BADILLO (glass factory outlet on NE corner). From here, there are two routes to take to the Malecon.

1. You can continue north on INSURGENTES to the river and cross the bridge (Flea Market on the left). Follow the street to the left (A. RODRIGUEZ) and head west until you hit the Malecon extension on the bay. Turn right and head north to the downtown area (El Centro).

2. Turn left and take BASILIO BADILLO (restaurant row) west until you get to the beach. They have been working on extending the Malecon south of the river. It was pretty close to being done last November. You should be able to turn right and head north to the downtown area (El Centro).

If you go the flea market route, Café Roma is a great place to stop for a good food and drink at a very reasonable price. http://www.romamexico.com/

If you go directly to the water via BASILIO BADILLO, Bar Los Burros is a great place to stop for a good food and drink at a very reasonable price right on the beach. http://www.mexonline.com/burros.htm

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the tips!!! We leave a week from today!

Us too! Two weeks of fun in the sun. I just hope the tropical storm is well out into the Pacific by then.

Just curious ... why are you getting back from Los Veranos so late in the day? Most cruiser take the 11 AM excursion and that should have you back to Vallarta around 2:30 (unless you plan on swimming/eating/drinking out at the excursion site) after the ziplines. We did the 10AM slot last year and were back in town around 1:30.

Enjoy!

I have been watching the san diego webcam and both ships are still in port. I guess they are waiting to see what happens with the tropical storm. Like you, I hope that it is LONG GONE a week from today.

We are signed up for the 11:00 Los Veranos tour. It said 3.5 hours, but I figured we might want to stay at Panchos for just a bit, so I scheduled our massages for 5:00, just so we wouldn't be rushed.

Can you walk there from the ship to the gas station or should we take a cab? If we dont go to los veranos are there any beaches walkable from the ship?

The Los Veranos tour office is not within walking distance of the ship. You need to take a cab to get there. The Los Veranos excursion site is located an additional 20-30 minutes ride south of Vallarta. Reference this map - http://www.vallarta-info.com/outerlimits.html You will find Los Veranos just below Boca de Tomatlan.

The Marine Terminal is located on the north end of the Hotel Zone. Quite a few cruisers walk to the Krystal and use that resort for the day. The beach sand in this area is rather course compaired to sandy beaches in the Caribbean. Some people use the Nikki Beach club located at the Weston in the Marina Vallarta area. Others will take a cab to old town and use the Los Muertos beach area. Reference this map - http://www.vallarta-info.com/south.html

A good way to spend a relaxing day in a semi-all-inclusive environment is the Las Caletas excursion. http://www.vallarta-adventures.com/las-caletas/index.html

Your ship will likely sell this tour at an inflated price. You can book this tour thru an independent tour broker at Vallarta Online - http://www.vallartaonline.com/tours/Caletas/

or thru

Puertovallartatours at - http://www.puertovallartatours.net/las-caletas-snorkeling.htm

Enjoy!

Just of the Pride yesteray. We were in Puerto Vallarta on 10/17 and did Los Veranos tour and massages at Krystal. Our Los Veranos was at 11am but I forgot that Puerto Vallarta was one hourahead of ship time and we missed the 11am tour but Los Veranos was wonderful about letting us do the 12pm tour. And you will love the Canopy. We took a taxi van from the pier to the Los Veranos office for $4 per person. The taxis are every where. The ride was only 20 minutes. When we returned to the Los Veranos office around 4pm we walked about 6 blocks but decided to grab a cab to Krystal and it was only $5 for the ride. It did take about 20 minutes to get there. The massages were wonderful. We did the 90 minute relaxing massage and it was one of the best I ever had. We walked from the Krystal to the ship and it was only a 3 - 4 blocks and took less than 10 minutes.

There are two taxi systems in Vallarta: White Federal taxis & yellow city taxis.

The white taxis work the Federal properties at the airport and the marine terminal. They charge per person at a pretty high rate.

The yellow taxis service the rest of the city. They charge per cab ride with up to four people. Yellow taxis (and there are nearly 1,000) are regulated by zone. The rate to any point downtown (el centro) should be roughly $5 USD with the rate to the Los Veranos office being $1.50 more. There is a zone line at the river between downtown (el Centro) and the old city.

Actual taxi rates are in pesos. Those of us that are here for more than a day pay for just about everything in pesos. Todays exchange rate is 10.81 pesos per US$ but most street vendors and taxis do a straight up 10:1 coversion. (i.e.: 35 peso cab ride is $3.50 USD) They generally don't take US coins and rarely give back US$'s as change.

Enjoy! (5 more days and I'll be getting off the plane in Vallarta) :D

That was really nice of them to accomodate you on the 12pm tour! We want to sign up for this same tour, but I'm trying to decide between the 11am and 12pm because I'm worried about time. We'll be on the Pride also. Do you think we should just go ahead and book the 12pm to be safe? Did you use dollars or pesos for the cab ride?

You can use Pesos or Dollars but everyone takes US dollars. The ship is in port at 8am ship time which is actually 9am Puerto Vallarta time. This still gives you 2 hours to get over to the Los Veranos for the 11am tour. I messed up because the ship announced to turn your clocks ahead on Tuesday by one hour so I set my alarm for ship time. I got off the ship at 10 am ship time which was actually 11am Puerto Vallarta time.
