Paying Off Account on Last Night

We are cruising the Carnival Liberty this coming February.

Even if we provide a credit card to Carnival to charge all of our on board purchases, can we still go to the purser's desk on the last night to pay it all off in cash/traveller's cheques?

Given the canadian dollar is worth more than the american right now, I want to buy my US currency now in case the canadian dollar drops before our cruise.

Thanks!

Yes, you certainly can. However, expect the hold that Carnival placed on your credit card to be there for up to 10 days...

We never gave them a credit card # - just took traveller's cheques to the Purser's Desk when we boarded and deposited an amount onto our Sail and Sign account. We put more on the account half way through the trip and even got a small refund cheque at the end of the trip. On your documents, where it asks you for your credit card #, just write in CASH.

I'll chime in with seconding that you can do that. I did that, and now knowing that the entire vacation is completely paid off, in cash, made the whole vacation much more enjoyable. No surprises next month!

Well, unless I have to pay roaming for them making my phone ring because someone decided to try calling me 5 times in a row. I knew I should have bought a cheap watch.

Smart move! Having just done a TA from London and watched the US dollar plung in regard to the pound. I told those going with me to by pounds and guess who didn't take their own advise:o

Yes, I always pay mine off with cash. I don't want a bill after the fact:D

I wouldn't worry about the CDN $ dropping anytime soon. In fact best bets are it will continue to rise against the US $ as the American economy slowly slides into the tank!

Many economists are saying that the future "gold standard" for currency is going to slowly shift to the Euro instead of the US $. I tend to agree.

Because the cruise lines have traditionally set their own exchange rates for foreign currency against the US $ I am checking often to make sure that they have removed their favourable US exchange rate and apply ther favourable 3% rsate to the CDN$. As late as last May some of them were still charging as much as 15% when the rest of the world was charging 7.5 >8% on the CDN$.

We're watching to make sure that the fares charged to us are the 3% in favour of our CDN $. It seems like a small amount, but for our Carnival Splendor cruise in the Med next year it works out to about $300 which will pay for an excursion somewhere.

We do it all the time.

Sometimes with Casino winnings. :D

Sometimes not. :(

On my Freedom cruise, I won $500 on a .25 cent slot machine. Whoohoo! Paid off my entire sail and sign bill on the last night (which was "held" with a credit card") and still came home with more money US money than I left with! (spent all my Euros though). Gotta love that!

Then, my mom won $1500 on a $1 slot machine!!!

Loved that casino. :D
