Explorer Live Now And Then

Recommended Posts

I hope not! I wouldn't wish 3 days of this storm on anyone not to mention getting hit with the blasted thing on the way to the Caribbean! A few people I know have commented to me they were not even able to enjoy their balconys that much due to the weather on this cruise and several were ill. I've sailed in a few storms on the Explorer and I understand why the decision was reached to keep us out of the direct path of Noel. This ship is really getting hammered by the gale winds and heavy seas, many passengers are sick, and it's just tiring after awhile. They only had one small front section of windjammer open last night as so many were sick and staying in their cabins. According to our cruise tickets nothing about our cruises is ever guaranteed ( including the condition of the ship!) so people can complain but it won't do them any good and ALL cruiselines are the same when it comes to cruise contracts. I just hope they have MUCH better weather on their cruise! :)

My balcony door was locked with handle half way up not all the way and we just got hit portside with such a jolt it swung my balcony door wide open! I used all my strengthy to pull it closed and lock it AGAIN this time with handle all the way up! DH just went down to the casino and now I am going to go find him and smack him just for general purposes as that did startle me for a few minutes! LOL:D

At least you still have your sense of humor Suzanne!!!! I'd smack him too!!!! I'm sure you will have sun here and there because from what I've seen on the weather channel - Noel isn't really causing too much rain - more so wind and high seas - neither of which you want to hear about I'm sure!!! Please let us know when you're home safe!!!!

Hi Lynn, The sun is out here too but we are just getting slammed around. We just came back to the cabin to find glass smashed all over the floor. Must have happened when I went down to the casino. The OS has a bar against the wall and wine glasses on shelves and the glasses on top shelf were tossed off by a wave I guess. The lady is here now with a vacuumn as I called suite maintenance. We picked up all the big pieces but there are a million small shards on floor as entrance is marble where glasses hit. Plastic glasses would have been a much better choice on a ship. :)

Suzanne....have been having some posting problems with CC but looks like things are ok now but you girl...you are having some problems of your own right now. Three hours ago, if you were 300 miles from Cape Hatteras, you were in some rough seas. I live in NC and been seeing the reports of the coast on tv.

Do I believe you will smack your hubby, LOL...yeap! You take care and hold on when walking. We have been in rough seas before and so many people fall down stairs thinking handrails are not needed.

Go get a cookie...eat one for me too and think about the good times we are going to have on December 2...which will be here before you know it. I know people are complaining but with your positive attitude...hang in there girl. When you can, let us hear from you...and we will be thinking of you all in our thoughts and prayers!

Hi to Suzanne and everyone else on Exp.I have been with you( in spirit) on this cruise since your first post and will be so glad when u guys get back home tomorrow safe and sound. We sailed for the first time in Mariner on 2005 and had tochange route to avoid Dennis..the seas were so calm I was not even aware I was on a ship!!! Last year we sailed in December, again on the Mariner and we hit some rough weather.I was terrified and wish I had met some experienced folks like yourself, to allay my fears at the time.

This must have been awful for you but your posts have been so upbeat and positive in this difficult time, you are an inspiration to all us worry warts out here! Look forward to reading your latest post Suzanne and safe journey home to everyone.

I'm sorry Suzanne - I confused you!!!! When I said there would be sun "here and there" - I meant it would be sunny for you off and on - NOT for you AND here in PA. We haven't seen any of the effects of Noel this far inland.

I wouldn't walk barefoot in your cabin!!!! I thought the same thing about the glass glasses in the bathroom and on our vanity in the Junior Suite. I really thought they would be plastic too!!!

I hope things are settling down for you! Just keep repeating - I'll be home soon, I'll be home soon, I'll be home soon!!!

Hey Canada!:D I hope you are keeping that McPokey in line! Only a few more days until I'm home! :D I do believe you will get some of Noel too. Looks like we'll be riding it all the way home according to news. Always an adventure! Just think what you have to look forward to in April sailing with me! :D

Hi Suzanne,

If you ever can get caught up on the thread, I think you'll be in for a suprise.....:D

We lost power today due to the hurricane force winds. When our power was out, I put "The Perfect Storm" movie into my laptop. Unfortunately, my battery died halfway thru the movie. Glad to have electricity again! Winds are calming down off Cape Cod. Nova Scotia had better be ready for a rough night.

I hope everyone enjoys the sunshine when they get back to Cape Liberty. We're sailing Feb 3 and hope for calmer seas.

7pm update

The Captain announced the following about 15 minutes ago. We did turn a bit to avoid the weather and we are now at our farthest from Noel. However to avoid this storm completely would put us at sea a couple of days so we are once again traveling on Noel's GOOD SIDE in order to keep our scheduled arrival in Bayonne on Sunday. SO in my opinion this means we are in for a nasty night basically. It is formal night and the Captain suggested that ladies do NOT wear high heels and for us all to use the handrails on stairs and in hallways and to be very careful going outside at all due to gusts of wind. We are now experiencing very rough seas and motion so I don't think formal night is on anyones priority list right now! We certainly were not going to begin with and headed for a relaxing ( HA! ) meal in the Windjammer this evening. Well normally it would be relaxing.....tonight it's just going to be the goal of walking from point A to point B as we are now getting hammered with very strong winds that is causing the entire ship to shake violently and pitch. The Captain will give us another update of weather tomorrow morning he said but they are watching Noel very closely but as of now her tract is stable.

Hi Suzanne,

Do you kind of feel like the guy who announced the Hindenberg Disaster? Hang on tight and stay safe. We all miss you on the IOS thread.

Live from Explorer 11:10pmHi everyone! It's been a rough rocky day as you can imagine and tonight is no different. Lots of pitching and rocking! This afternoon one of the Promanade cabin windows blew out from the stress and motion of the ship. No one was hurt. Ice show was cancelled today and tonight and there is a performance scheduled for tomorrow at 1pm. No idea if they can do it or not at that time. As far as I know our arrival time is still scheduled as 3pm and debarkation will BEGIN at 430pm but we are having rough seas tonight so it could change I guess depending on the storm. They are helping people make alternative flights, hotels, etc. for much later in the day to be on safe side. We do have a Compass for tomorrow day 9.5.Regular full breakfast AND lunch will be served in dining rooms and Windjammer. We are suppose to leave our cabins by 1pm but that can change also. We plan on getting up early, letting our steward get his work done and just come back to hang on balcony until it's 1pm. Concierge is open for diamonds and suite guests of course until departure. The Maharajas lounge will be set up for diamond and/plus and platinum for departure lounge from 3pm-5pm and if you wish to join other traveling companions you can wait in Studio B or Theater. We always wait on open deck 4 and just watch them prepare for departure. We received letter from Captain tonight detailing reasons for modification to our arrival time and we still need to stay at a safe distance from Noel as it remains a powerful storm due to high winds and heavy seas. Judging by the pounding we are still taking I would not want to get any closer. Everything is rattling and slamming in cabin still. Highlights of day 9 wereIce show which was cancelledFinal cash Bingo which was played and one winner took 7500.00 I thinkCooking demo by Executive Chef at 10:30 am on PromanadeKaroke Superstar Championship 10:30pm Palance TheaterDrink of Day was Paradise Cocktail 8.25Art auction 2pmCasino was open all day and nightDay 9.5 tomorrow! Family Karoke noon-1pmIce show 1pmCrazy pool olympics 1pmSail in Party 2-4pm with pool band Hot SandsLive music in all bars till 2:45and tons of other activities are scheduled as well. Of course many are weather permitting and may be cancelled. We have no idea how they'll handle everyone getting off tomorrow before they let everyone on and we can only hope people do not arrive at the pier until about 5 at the earliest if they do not plan on our departure until 430. Again, that can change due to weather delays. It will be a complete zoo we expect in port unless they have some plan we do not know about. I do know people have received calls onboard from TA and car services delaying flights and departures so it's a bit of a mess but we'll all get thru it one way or the other. We have to get luggage out in the hall now before midnight and we are ready to go home but we have many hours ahead of us of very rough seas before we get there. Tv keeps going in and out so not sure of connection but we'll try to post more later.

Hey McPokey! Don't shoot the messenger! LOL! :D I know people are disappointed but I'd be happy to trade places with them right now or anytime over the past 2 days! I miss the IOS thread too and have only been able to post a few posts since I've been gone. I have A LOT to catch up on! :p I've only sent a couple of emails too because of storm and connection. Dave is TRYING to watch a football game on Espan now but TV keeps going out. I told him he's lucky it's still in one piece at this point! Hang on? You betcha I'm hanging on! I watched a teenager plunge straight down the stairs this afternoon landing on his face, yes he fine as he's young! I would be in a body cast by now! I have a death grip on those handrails! LOL:p
