acud Posted October 23, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2007 based on some posts, we are a bit confused. we do understand port/starboard & we've booked a room 'on the bubble' (starboard) with a larger balcony and completly unobstructed view. does it make a difference which side? we are sailing southbound thru the inside passage. thx. Sailing Southbound, the main shore line will be on the PORT side of the ship. The islands which make up the Inside Passage will be on the STARBOARD side. You will not spend the entire trip in the Inside Passage. There will be some sections when the starboard side will have an ocean view. Some people like to spend lots of time on their balcony looking for wildlife. If so, do you want to watch for bears, moose and seals on land,or whales and dolphins in the ocean? If you are going to Glacier Bay or Hubbard Glacier, some of the better views going in will be on the port side, and on the starboard side while exiting. At the glacier itself the Captain usually swings the ship so both sides get great views. Otherwise, if it is just a matter of a nice view, both sides will be fine. I would personaly pick the port side for southbound and starboard for north. Though views will be great on both sides going through the inside passage. We were very lucky to find an aft cabin available for our cruise next year:) . John
acud Posted October 23, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted October 23, 2007 thx - good perspective. in the end, much of this trip is about being outside anyway - not much time spent in the room!

qiangf2 Posted October 23, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2007 Port side will give you more shoreline view. It is pretty far still. Whenever possible, I will head out to the open deck to get unobstructed view on both sides of the ship.
gazingm42 Posted October 23, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2007 If you can get Port side do it. Many will tell you it doesn't matter. But I think it does, but that just my opinion. Most the towns will be on Port side. But wildlife doesn't really make a difference.
