milolii Posted October 27, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2007 ;) Has anyone had any experience with accomdations and tours at the Glacier Bay Lodge? Have you tried to use the 2 for 1 Alaska Tour Book Coupon when booking?
wolfie11 Posted October 27, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2007 The lodge is quite nice but the management is somewhat disorganized. I would call and try to book with the 2-for-1, but they may limit dates. Get confirmation and discount in writing. The lodge is usually not very full unless there is a tour group staying there. The day boat trip to the glaciers is a fantastic experience and much superior to taking a cruise ship through the bay. There is a lot to do, including great kayaking from Bartlett Cove, charter fishing (I caught a 250 pound halibut there), bicycling into town, hiking, a ranger-led walk, films on the park on a rainy day, and good birdwatching. milolii Posted October 28, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted October 28, 2007 Wolfie, thank-you. You confirmed what I was thinking. 250 Lb. Halibut! Who did you book that trip with?
wolfie11 Posted October 29, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 29, 2007 I went out with a friend who was a ranger there at the time in his boat (I now own the boat, btw). We stayed out for 8 hours and caught some nice halibut. I throw anything bigger than 80 pounds back as these are BFFFFs (big, fat, fecund, female fish). milolii Posted October 30, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted October 30, 2007 Sounds like you live there. I did talk to the lodge this morning and they are sending me a conformation in the mail.
