What currancy does Costa use onboard?

Considering booking a cruise aboard the Costa Fortuna. Can anyone tell me if purchases onboard the ship are based in US dollars?

It depends where the ship is sailing ie ineurope the Euro in Carribean the us dollar the restof the worl d and if I remember correctly south america was also the US dollar

McDermott is absolutely right... The US$ is the official currency during any Caribbean Sailings, the Euro for any Mediterranean/Baltic sailings.

Just got off the Nov. 2nd transatlantic Fortuna cruise and as it left from Italy it was the euro. We were told that they were switching over to the US dollar after we arrived in Fort Lauderdale.
