cbreit Posted September 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2004 Just wondering, because I know the Grand Princess is coming to Newport a few times in September, if anyone has any questions I could help you with... Have lived here all my life and know a lot about the mansions.
SaylorGirl Posted September 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2004 We are on the Regal Princess and will be in Newport on September 12th. I am planning to purchase our tickets ahead of time to tour the mansions through the Newport Society website. I am planning to purchase the one for the Breakers. Or do you feel one of the other mansions is better? My DH has agreed to go to just one. I would like to hear of any of your other suggestions. Thanks for your help! cbreit Posted September 2, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted September 2, 2004 The Breakers is the most popular, after that I would probably go to The Elms. They have the most beautiful grounds! You'll probably have time for two mansions...
espmass Posted September 3, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2004 I used to live in that area too and I agree with those suggestions. Take a walk past all the mansions if you have time as they are all amazing from the outside too. The town is touristy but cute and worth taking a stroll through. The weather that time of year is usually great for walking. If it's hot, the beaches are nice although sometimes filled with alot of seaweed. ENJINOK Posted September 3, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2004 I like the Astor's Beechwood Mansion Tour too. The house isn't as beautiful, but the tour is great! I also like Rosecliff. They filmed some of the Great Gatsby there. I went to college right next door to the Breakers! I remember when the QE2 was there in the 80's! I LOVE Newport!
