Cruising89143 Posted September 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2004 Well we just left out of Pt. Canaveral on a cruise to nowhere. According to our Cruise Director we have approx 2000 on board. A lot of people took Carnival up on their offer of the $100.00 on board credit and the 50% off a future cruise deal. It was a beautiful day in Cocoa Beach area. Also I understand a lot of last minute bookings from the locals that had to evacuate. We were told upon boarding that it may be Tuesday before we make it back into port. We will know more on Saturday evening. Ship looks great and the crew more friendly than ever. The shoreside group was running low on checkin associates so they had the crew helping out. When we topped the escalator we were greeted by some of the dining room waiters who were directing everyone around. The Casino Manager did our check in and did a great job also. The RCI ship came in one day early and then headed out just ahead of us without passengers. Both Carnival and Disney left out with passengers. Well time to run for now. Will post later on how things are going. Hope all those dealing with Francis are ok.

hill6 Posted September 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2004 Keep us informed of how your trip is and how the seas are. I think it was smart of the locals to get on the ship. I understand the roads to evacuate are clogged with people.

Madelaine Posted September 3, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2004 All of the east coast is coming. We opened our schools to keep them safe. Never saw so much traffic, but we are doing our part to help. Madelaine
Cruising89143 Posted September 3, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted September 3, 2004 Seas are a little rough due to the winds. Not sure what direction we are sailing but the Captain did tell us that tonight will be windy. People on here are in good spirits and everyone is having fun. For some reason I find the crew on this ship to be some of the best and I am making that statement after only being on the ship for six hours. The Disney ship is sailing right along our side. Will post tomorrow on how things are going.

boobooboo Posted September 3, 2004 #19 Share Posted September 3, 2004 Just wanted to thank you for keeping us up on the Fantasy cruise. We (4 of us) were supposed to be sailing with you, but had to cancel due to Frances. We live in (or near the storm's path - depending on what the weather people tell us), so had to stay home to board up our home. At least I can live the cruise vicariously through your reports. Thanks - and keep them coming! Stay safe - Bonnie

hill6 Posted September 4, 2004 #22 Share Posted September 4, 2004 Gordon, just out of curiousity what is the attitude like of the crew and the passengers given the circumstances for the "extended" cruise. Have you had a chance to speak to any of the "evacuees"?

Cruising89143 Posted September 4, 2004 Author #24 Share Posted September 4, 2004 Just curious about what kind of price the last minute people got. Let us know if you get an opportunity to find out. It may well have been cheaper than driving and finding a hotel. Dan, the one guy that we spoke with that had to evacuate had already called a hotel and the price was going to be $600.00 for three nights for two rooms at a hotel plus that did not include what he would to have paid for food for his family of five. Carnival called with a deal for this cruise and the cost was only $90.00 per person. Ot a bad deal at all. He stated that Carnival had 1200 to cancel. Cruising89143 Posted September 4, 2004 Author #25 Share Posted September 4, 2004 Just wanted to thank you for keeping us up on the Fantasy cruise. Thanks - and keep them coming! Stay safe - Bonnie Boobooboo, sorry you had to miss the cruise. Hopefully you can reschedule for a future date. We were almost in Orlando when Carnival called to say that we could cancel or the other options available. Our biggest concern was the condition of the port when we returned. The parking lot is an easy area to flood but we went ahead and took the chance. I have friends and family that are dealing with Frances now. Some live in Vero Beach and they have moved to my sisters in the west coast area above Tampa and also have friends in Lakeland. Carnvial told us that we would have the Weather Channel on during the cruise but so far we only have had it once which was yesterday for about two hours. Needless to say Carnival is making some money off of the internet on this cruise.
