gehrandt Posted November 3, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2007 Several of our kids want to do Bonefishing in Jan - either Roatan or Cozumel. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions appreciated. Tks.
akunamatata Posted November 6, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2007 we are in Roatan at least 6 months per year,we fish a lot. Our favorite is Mad Max Fishing Charters. They organize fly fishing trips as well. They took us to a lagoon near by west bay beach, lots of bonefish. And juvenile permit.
gehrandt Posted January 27, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted January 27, 2008 Our two DSs and DD went bonefishing while visiting Roatan. The weather turned out poorly for fishing (only one caught) however they had a ball. The boat was lacking an engine and because of the weather conditions the captain had to move it to the other side of the island so the kids had an hour wait before it showed up. Also, due to the time problem the captain hadn't stopped to pick up lunch and/or drinks. None of that mattered to the kids - they were in seventh heaven. The drive had been beautiful and the flats were even more so. They had a fantastic time with their guides - couldn't say enough about the beauty of Roatan and the warmth of the people. auggie43054 Posted May 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2008 Do you mind me asking how much it was to go fishing? Did you use the Mad Max as suggested, or a different company? Did you have to charter a boat, or did you just pay per person. How long did you fish? My husband is looking to do some fishing but everything that I've found requires you to charter the boat at a cost of $400 - $600 dollars. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Oz9591 Posted May 9, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2008 We did three hours of fishing outside the reef up-and-down between West Bay beach and Half Moon Bay with the Bodden fishing guide, Henry. It was very fun and only $70 per hour (not per person...just per hour in the boat!) so we really thought we got a great deal. We caught 3 tunas and 3 barracudas and saw a huge sea turtle while we were out. I can't wait to go back! We even had time to tour the island with teh Bodden best of Roatan tour for $25 each and a great way to see lots of great places like the jungle, beaches, scenic overlooks looking out over the clear-blue waters and reef...it was definitely the best day of our cruise. Fishing_Guide Posted February 24, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2010 If your looking for a good local to take 2-3 people max. I suggest using Artley captain of the boat Cool Running. He's very reliable and been fishing all his life. He charges around $70 an hour and while he boat is only 24' it's comfortable. I hear Roatan is getting Jet Ski fishing, which is a really cool idea. You get to do two tours (riding waverunners and fishing all in one). I did it in the Cayman Islands because I couldn't get anyone else to chip in on renting a big boat.
