Recent Infinity Pax: What day is the midnight buffet and photography tips?

We had one last question for those who had recently taken Infinity to Alaska. On what day was the midnight buffet? Also do you have any strategies for the best time to arrive if you just wanted to shoot some pics?

It's invariably on the next to last night.

 

They'll open up for pics & viewing before they let people eat it, there's plent of time to get some photoes and/or video.

Not specific to the Infinity, but here's a few tips:

 

They'll announce in the daily when the doors will open for the photo session. For the best pics, try getting there a bit before this time, as you'll get better pics if you're one of the first to enter, vs. those trying to shoot under, around and between throngs of people. Once I also went through the buffet area twice, shooting overall pictures before the crowd was in and then shooting detailed pics of some of the carvings and such during the second pass when there were too many folk to shoot wide.

 

Also if your camera allows it, remember to shoot a few pictures with the flash off and the ISO dialed up -- for the ice sculptures in particular, this can create much better pics because the colored lighting and fine details will not be overwhelmed by the flash.

 

Oh yeah -- I always make a point of taking a few pics of the staff during this time also. They've worked for two days putting this event together, so someone taking their picture is well received!

Just came back from Infinity to Alaska (7 nights)- the buffett was Friday night, with doors opening at 12 am for pictures.
