beachfanatic Posted November 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2007 We have a trip scheduled in mid-jan for 2 nights. Any info would be helpful, especially anyone who has used the pool in Winter or info on what restaurants are nearby...
Bequia Posted November 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2007 Lots of reviews of this property on these boards. Safe neighborhood, Walgreens next door, Publix Supermarket across the street. A couple of decent restaurants in the same shopping center as the supermarket. You can hop a cab to the ocean, it's only 1.5 mile east of the hotel. ;)
beachfanatic Posted November 15, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted November 15, 2007 is the beach walkable?
Bequia Posted November 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2007 Absolutely, walk along the Broadwalk..... Named one of America’s top ten nostalgic promenades by USA Today in 2005, the pedestrian Hollywood Beach Broadwalk has undergone a complete renovation. Built in the 1920s, the Hollywood Broadwalk is over two-miles long, featuring a thirty-foot wide landmark pedestrian promenade that combines dramatic coastal views of award-winning Blue Wave beaches with the nostalgic feel of a Main Street thoroughfare. The oceanfront Broadwalk offers miles of car-free enjoyment. Walkers, runners, bicyclists and rollerbladers set their own pace on this path, which is bordered by six miles of Hollywood’s famous coastline, boutique hotels, charming shops, and cafés and places to eat facing the ocean. The beach area and Broadwalk also offer free wi-fi access. Still, the most popular pastime on the beach is simply savouring the charming character of this truly unique setting. Comfortable sun beds and cabanas are available for rent, so reserve a day for relaxing to the sound of soothing waves. The fresh ocean air will carry you into a state of pure bliss. ;)

Any info would be helpful, especially anyone who has used the pool in Winter or info on what restaurants are nearby... The pool is small but it is wet. Just across the street are two restaurants Pancho's backyard - Mexican and Villa Jo Jo - Italian. We did eat at the Italian and found it to be good (not great), talked with people who have dined at the Mexican and thought it was very good. rankin Posted November 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2007 Bequia - Your info on walking the Broadwalk from the Sleep Inn to the beach was very interesting. Is there any possibility that the Comfort Inn Airport West in Davie is situated within walking distance of a beach?

rankin Posted November 18, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2007 Bequia... You are the MAN! Now for the $64 question - your opinion...We have a party of 7 (Me & wife, Grandmom, 4 in their 20's). Comparable quotes: where would you recommend for precruise between Sleep Inn or Amerisuites/Hyatt Place?
Bequia Posted November 18, 2007 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2007 I'm leaning towards Amerisuites/Hyatt Place only because it's a brand new property. Another reason, with 7 in your group, the SE 17th Street area offers more dining choices, inexpensive trolley to the beach and Las Olas Blvd., nearby water taxi, no reason for anyone to get bored.
rankin Posted November 19, 2007 #10 Share Posted November 19, 2007 Your points are well-taken. Thank you for all your insights. You make it so much easier to plan for everyone on this board.
LABCHICK Posted November 19, 2007 #11 Share Posted November 19, 2007 We just got back from our cruise on Nov 17. We stayed at the Sleep Inn 1 nite pre cruise. It was find. Room was small but clean. Staff was very pleasant. Nice breakfast. Would stay there again if we sail out of Fort Lauderdale. Judi :)

Ltvscout Posted November 30, 2007 #13 Share Posted November 30, 2007 Everyone has their own definition of what they find to be a clean room. I'd read my review before making any decisions. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=530341 Of course since we stayed there in March they could've been completely renovated and a new management team put in place, but I doubt it. I would highly recommend going to the Broadwalk though if you have time while in FLL.

Ltvscout Posted November 30, 2007 #15 Share Posted November 30, 2007 9 months have passed by since your stay and judging by the reviews on these boards your experience was the exception, not the rule. We all appreciate the info you give us about the FLL area. But, have you actually stayed at the Sleep Inn yourself? A number of other people had issues like we did. Like I said, everyone has their own definition of clean.
bike1964 Posted December 5, 2007 #16 Share Posted December 5, 2007 You mentioned that the beach was walkable along the boardwalk, but can you walk to the beach from the Sleep Inn? I think you mentioned it was 1.5 miles. Is this in a safe neighborhood to be walking around in? Please advise.
Bequia Posted December 5, 2007 #17 Share Posted December 5, 2007 The area is primarily residential, it's very safe. If you walk to the beach you'll encounter people of all ages walking, roller blading, biking, jogging along Sheidan Street towards the beach. Even at night time it's well lit and still pretty active with people walking home from the beach.
bike1964 Posted December 6, 2007 #18 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Thanks for the info. We will be staying @ the Sleep Inn in Feb and leaving on the Navigator of The seas. How far is the port from the Sleep Inn? Also, how far is the Sleep Inn from the airport? Forgive me if you have already answered these questions. Thanks. Bequia Posted December 6, 2007 #19 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Ten minutes from the airport, less then 15 minutes to the cruiseport. The map below will give you a better idea.
