Confused regarding different cabin categories

Been quite a few years since we sailed Carnival (14 to be exact) and I must admit the different classifications within each category has me confused. We booked a guarantee balcony and I notice there are classifications of 8A,B,C, D etc. Can someone please explain this to me. Also what is the difference between the standard balcony room and the deluxe balcony room? Location perhaps? Is the cabin itself bigger?
