If you had to pay for ....would you?

Wouldn't pay for the C & A membership here. When they started the C & A

program way back, I automatically qualified for the Diamond category.

At that time, a Diamond membership and 50 cents bought me a cup of coffee.

No really big deal at that time. Now they have added some nice benefits

but still cruise with RCI because I enjoy the product.

I do like the perks but feel they are earned with the loyalty

we show by cruising time and time again. Spoke with the Loyalty Ambassador on the last cruise and was kidding her about what would RCI

do later on when more and more achieved Diamond status because the cruise industry is growing. She said that's a problem they're addressing, such is the

reason for establishing the Diamond plus membership.

But that's the marketing business, just keep the product good and people

will keep coming.

Happy cruising,

Nah, I wouldn't pay for C&A membership either, or any other cruise line's program. We got T-shirts on Celebrity, coupon books & fanny packs on RCCL. And some other stuff that was not as cool as the towel animals and candy that everyone receives! Maybe if we were in the Diamond catagory there would be perks that would be worth paying for?

C&A Loyalty is like hotel and airline perks. By being loyal to RCCL, one earns the level of membership. My wife and I began sailing with Royal Caribbean in '81 and have since logged enough cruises to be at the Diamond level. Guess that means we are getting older! ( I remember when a coat and tie were required in the dining room and was not questioned; surely, not challenged!)

What has the membership gained us? The most prominent instance was back in March of this year. We were scheduled to cruise on the Grandeur, but I was unexpectedly deployed and could not go. Instead, my wife and son went. As they arrived at the terminal, a representative asked if she needed help. She stated that I usually guided her through the process but was overseas. The rep asked if she was a C&A Society member. She told him that we were Diamond members. He assisted her with her carry-on luggage, escorted her directly to the counter and waited to escort her as far as the metal detectors. It was nothing that she could not have done for herself, but the courtesy made for one less stress on her.

If all goes well, I'll be back in January and we are planning our next cruise in February!

We "bought" the Celebrity Captain's club when it wasn't free for one big perk...priority disembarkation. Since we are founders members, we still get that perk, even though current "gold" members don't qualify.

Would I but the current C & A program at the Gold level? Probably not, but if the pay for portion included Platinum benefits, I would consider it just to save the $$$ for balcony cabins.

Since we rarely receive our C&A newsletters---I should hope they wouldn't want to charge---can't even tell if I should be saving money when they don't mail out the goods. I have called--and was told about 6 weeks ago that another one was in the mail. By the time it arrives--the coupons won't be valid!!!

I think a charge would be a bad PR move.
