Pacific Whale Whale Watching - Advance Reservations necessary?

When I called them, they were quite sure I would not need a reservation- I also was concerned that they would charge me if we don't get in off the tenders from bad weather- the woman reassured me that that would not be the case- it was just to protect themselves from no-shows --

however, I do plan on making a reservation just to be able to plan the rest of my day-
