River tubing - is the water clean?

I just got back from Dominica in mid-Nov. I didn't do the tubing, but all the water comes from the natural springs that are all over the island. We went to a lot of waterfalls and the water was so clean, you could drink straight from the falls. The water was absolutely fantastic! There are no real factories in Dominica to really pollute things. If anything, I would expect the water to be (at worst) sandy, but not dirty or anything.

Just got back from doing the river tubing in Dominica. It was awesome :D . The river moves pretty well, so there is no real standing water. At no time did I feel the water was dirty, even when the water came right over my head going through one of the rapids. It was definitely not smelly or slimy! Hope you have a great time :)

Bonnie...did you have any problems with bugs that bite? Did you use any insect repellant? How rough was the water? We are thinking about doing this w/Wacky Rollers in Dec.

Been there, done that. Great ride:D .

The water is crystal clear. You can drink it. The locals do! Our guide told us there are no harmful insects, bugs or anything in there. Only crayfish and fresh water fish which the locals hunt for food. We did not see any fishes though. The guide boasted that Dominica's waters are the third purest & cleanest in the world! It only gets muddy when the river floods, and then you won't be able to tube on the swollen river.

So go right ahead and try it out. I'm sure you'll enjoy every bit of it.:p
