cruisinmamma Posted September 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2004 Any problems getting a cab at the Ft Lauderdale airport? What is the fare from the airport to cruise terminal. Sailing on Century 10/16.
sharks48 Posted September 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2004 We just returned from there Monday. No problem, even with hordes of cruise passengers. It does help to be somewhat aggressive, however - not rude, or anything, but if you get out there and grab a cab, you'll have less of a wait. It cost $13 with tip. Very short ride. A "heads up": They were allowing curb-side check-in at Jet Blue [and it looked like at other airlines, too]. Much shorter lines than inside. cruisinmamma Posted September 9, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted September 9, 2004 Thanks I'm geeting excited but, also a little nervous. I've never cruise w/o DH, however this time it's me my mom and a friend who is a first time cruiser. I guess that leaves me in charge!
flyin Posted March 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 20, 2005 does anyone know a convenient way to get from the ft. lauderdale airport to the miami cruise terminal? I know, I know, why not fly into Miami? Southwest air for one, doesn't go there (to my knowledge). For 5 or 6 passengers... options I've considered: 1. cab (would they do it?) 2. shuttle (does it exist?) 3. rental car (one way, option a to Miami airport, cab from airport to cruise terminal, option b, direct to cruise terminal IF any rentals go there...) Any suggestions at all would be helpful, including: "just fly in to Miami" :) tnx, Rob
TrentS Posted March 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Yes I guess you could take a taxi, but it would be quite pricey and with that many people and their luggage you would probably have to take two. You COULD rent a car if you wanted to mess with that, and that would probably be the cheapest way, but you would have to return it to MIA and then take a shuttle from the airport to port - kind of a pain really. If you're not flying in early and going straight from FLL to the Port of Miami as it sounds like you're doing I would take either a shuttle or limo. Two of the best in town are Larry's Limo and Tri-County Express. Tri-County Express have both shared van services (cheapest way) and limo services... http://www.floridalimo.com/ Larry's Limo... http://larryslimo.com/
flyin Posted March 21, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 21, 2005 TrentS, thanks. Right now we're looking to fly in about 1PM cruise day and then have to make it to the port for boarding for a 4pm sail. The Ft. Lauderdale option will save a bundle in air fare, so a little extra transportation expense is ok. the shuttle/limo does sound like the way to go, though one question: port of miami's web site seemed to imply there were some rental cars "right there" but having never been there myself, and from your comments, I'm inferring that "right there" means at the airport requiring a shuttle back to port. This won't be practical given our (current) schedule. Frankly if I need to, it will still be cheaper to fly in to Ft. Lauderdale the night before and get a hotel room than to fly in direct to Miami. hmmm. I'll check out those shuttle links. Thanks! -- Rob
TrentS Posted March 21, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 21, 2005 No, there USED to be rental cars at the Port of Miami but since 9/11 everything has changed and they're no longer kept there. Most rental car companies will shuttle you from the Miami airport lots, but given your very tight schedule that would take you way too much time. In fact the shared van service may take too long as well as they may make other stops. If you're flying into FLL on the day of your cruise I would either go with a limo, or make sure you can be the only passengers in the van. Keep in mind too that while it's normally only 30-40 minutes from FLL to the Port of Miami our traffic down here can be VERY bad at times and if there's an accident on I-95 that time can easily become 90 minutes! If you can possibly do it I would strongly recommend that you fly in the day before. I always like to have that extra day to allow for flight delays, baggage delays, etc. Plus it's so nice to be able to get to the port and on the ship early and rested and be able to enjoy that first day that you have paid for. flyin Posted March 22, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Thanks again! You've got me 99.99% convinced about coming in the day before... even have the flight picked out. The group has grown by 1 to 6 (my entire family). now have to get the rest of the trip organized (post cruise travel over to the FL west coast...) glad I bumped into this board! TrentS Posted March 22, 2005 #9 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Good luck Rob, and believe me, you'll do yourself a HUGE favor by coming in the day before!
