skogler Posted November 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2007 My family is wondering if the water around the Hawaiian islands is cold? We are trying to decide about a snorkle trip. Thanks, Scott

jerseyjk Posted November 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 30, 2007 I (as an east coaster and frequent visitor to the Caribbean) found the temperatures pleasant in early April. Cooler than the Caribbean for sure because of the quicker dropoff to greater depths, but warmer than the mid-Atlantic (Jersey to SC) coast in mid summer. IMO, go for the snorkel trip. RI Girl Posted December 1, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 1, 2007 We went snorkeling with a Captain Zodiac excursion in Kona earlier this month and I found jumping into the water to be a shock.........It felt pretty cold. We have snorkeled in the Caribbean and Mexico and that is bath water compared to this bay. The temperature reminded me of New England water mid summer. But once you get moving and seeing the beautiful tropical fish, the experience is well worthwile. Bring an underwater camera, I regret not having one after seeing the colorful fish.
