shops54 Posted December 2, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2007 We've always gone straight to the airport after other cruises but on this cruise we have a whole day in SD that we sure don't want to waste. How does it work? Where do you put your luggage? Is it safe to check it right from the ship? What do you do with your carry on? Do you go to the airport and put it into a locker? Do you shelp it with you all day? How does this work? We hope to do Balboa Park that day. I am so confused! Thanks
deepnite10 Posted December 3, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2007 without knowing the luggage policy and accomodation s at the airport..i d cab it to a airport car rental..rent a car then return it when your day is done..im sure that all the car rental companies offer shuttle s right to your departing terminal.. Splinter Posted December 3, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2007 Since 9/11 there have been no lockers at the San Diego airport. Either check your luggage at a hotel (give the bellman a nice tip) and then pick it up later, or rent a car, or consider taking a disembarkation tour if one if offered from the ship. When you say "a whole day" what time does your flight actually leave?
shops54 Posted December 3, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted December 3, 2007 Our flight leaves at 6:45pm. We were hoping to take the trolley all day - renting a car for the day isn't really in our budget. We wanted to see Balboa Park and or the SD mission - spend some last few precious hours outside before heading back to the frightful cold. Thanks everyone. Splinter Posted December 4, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2007 Do you mean the San Diego trolley (light rail) or the Old Town Trolley (private tour)? The former does not go to Balboa Park, and is a bit of a walk to the Mission from the nearest station. The Old Town Trolley Tour for two people will cost you much more than a rental car for the day. You could try to check your luggage at the Holiday Inn on the Bay (across the street from the terminal) and then take a cab (about $15 one way) or city bus to Balboa Park. You don't have much time what with getting off the ship about 10AM and then having to check in by 5PM or so at the airport. You can check bus/trolley schedules and route for Broadway Pier to Balboa Park or the Mission here: http://www.sdmts.com/Tripplanner.asp
