newistcruiseaddict Posted December 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2007 I have a very large group, 12 minimum. I was curious if anyone has done Uxmal on their own and if so what advice you might have. I'm extremely budget conscious and fairly brave. I'm considering renting two vans and researching "guide" information and providing the tour myself. Of course I realize we'll have to pay an entry fee though I'm not sure what it is. Does anyone know what a rental van costs, a reputable dealer to obtain one from, the cost of park entry, and possibly the location of a "script" for a self-guided tour? Any great pubs/restaurants to stop at along the way for lunch? Any and all advice is appreciated!
cws1966 Posted January 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2008 We are very interested in arranging for private transportation to Uxmal as well. Our ship is in port from 8 am to 8 pm, but the Uxmal tour through the ship doesn't leave until 12:15 pm! this makes no sense to me. We would like to leave early so we can take our time and possibly have time to get back, go to the beach and get a massage. I think all of that is do-able in 12 hours time. Can anyone recommend an individual that runs reputable tours? Thanks in advance!
YucatanToday Posted January 13, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2008 You can take a free shuttle from the boat to the Casa de Cultura. This is on Calle 80. Walk south, away from the Gulf, to the main plaza (about 2 blocks). The taxi and van cooperatives park there. Many of the drivers speak English - just ask them what they would charge for your group. Bargain! Please forgive all the links, but this info should really help: Read more about Uxmal here: http://www.yucatantoday.com/destinations/eng-uxmal.htm Lots of maps, e.g., Progreso, Uxmal, Yucatan, here: http://www.yucatantoday.com/eng-maps.htm On the road from Merida to Uxmal is the Hacienda Ochil: http://www.yucatantoday.com/culture/eng-rotm-06-07.htm Have a great time and be adventurous!
