Glenrie Posted December 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2007 My husband and I both need new glasses. Does anyone have any experience in buying glasses in Mexico? We are on Holland America's 10 day cruise next week so will be stopping at 5-6 ports. Thanks
househunter Posted December 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 8, 2007 Why would you buy them in Mexico instead of at home?
gomexico Posted December 8, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 8, 2007 Given the importance of prescription eyeglasses in our everyday lives, I think purchasing the glasses at home is the best thing to do. There are some good eyeglass companies in Mexico, but locating them, getting what you want in the time-frame you want the product - well, that'ls not easy for most people unfamiliar with the coutnry/area of travel to accomplish. Glenrie Posted December 8, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted December 8, 2007 Since we leave Wednesday, I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get glasses in time here at home. We won't get what we want but at least will be able to get some glasses tomorrow.

Does Mexico have the same type of eyeglass places as Hong Kong? If so, we'll plan to get some. Six years ago in Hong Kong, I bought titanium frames single vision (computer) glasses for $60 U.S. and that included the eye exam done by a Kodak machine, and it was correct Rx, too! The glasses were ready in 2 hours. We could easily do that in Acapulco or Manzanillo. Bev

Glenrie Posted December 11, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted December 11, 2007 Binyon's is now working on day 5 for my husband's glasses. Mine took 3 days and will need to be remade when we come back. Buying glasses in Mexico couldn't have been worse. :)
grammasan Posted November 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Why would you buy them in Mexico instead of at home? Buying glasses in Mexico because they are much cheaper than in the states. I have bought many pairs and very pleased. HOWEVER, I do NOT have the lenses done in Mexico. I bring the glass frames home and have the lenses done in the U.S.

YubaSutter Posted November 6, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 6, 2013 I would assume the OP has glasses as this thread is 6 years old.
