Buying Eyeglasses in Mexico

Given the importance of prescription eyeglasses in our everyday lives, I think purchasing the glasses at home is the best thing to do. There are some good eyeglass companies in Mexico, but locating them, getting what you want in the time-frame you want the product - well, that'ls not easy for most people unfamiliar with the coutnry/area of travel to accomplish.

Does Mexico have the same type of eyeglass places as Hong Kong? If so, we'll plan to get some. Six years ago in Hong Kong, I bought titanium frames single vision (computer) glasses for $60 U.S. and that included the eye exam done by a Kodak machine, and it was correct Rx, too! The glasses were ready in 2 hours. We could easily do that in Acapulco or Manzanillo.

Since we leave Wednesday, I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get glasses in time here at home. We won't get what we want but at least will be able to get some glasses tomorrow.

Lenscrafters, other eye exam locations have 1 hour to 24-48 hour turnarounds.

Why would you buy them in Mexico instead of at home?

Buying glasses in Mexico because they are much cheaper than in the states. I have bought many pairs and very pleased. HOWEVER, I do NOT have the lenses done in Mexico. I bring the glass frames home and have the lenses done in the U.S.
