Rental car after we disembark

We are flying in and out of Fort Lauderdale, and sailing from Miami. Our travel agent suggested that when we disembark we rent a car in Miami to travel back to Lauderdale. The logic is that will give us somewhere to store our luggage until our flight out, and we can do some tooling around in Lauderdale before the flight. Has anyone done this? Can we book a car in advance? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Yes, most of the majour agencies have moderate drop off charges between Miami and Ft.Lauderdale. You can also get shuttles, though I suspect that for two people, rental with drop off may well be cheaper each way.

Definately rent the car. All car rental companies let you take a car one-way with absolutely no drop charge.
