Pomperaugrr Posted December 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2007 Hi. I have searched the Antigua forum and have gotten great tips on many beaches. I still have an important, but unanswered question. We have two very well behaved daughters ages 7 and 9. They are learning to swim, but are not the strongest swimmers around. What beach would be preferred for kids to splash and swim in the water? Obviously we will be with them every second, but we are looking for a scenic beach or resort that would have nice sand and a gentle drop off with low surf. Bathroom facilities, chair and umbrella rental would be preferred. This is our first time in Antigua and we would appreciate all feedback. Most threads do not mention kids, which is why I started this one. Thanks! Eric

The snorkeling vests only have to be blown up a bit - enough to keep them afloat if they get tired (so they can yell D-AAAAAA-D really loud) but not enough to be cumbersome....? sas80 Posted December 11, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2007 While I cant answer your question directly, have you considered investing in snorkeling vests for the girls? The kind that you blow up yourself. This would allow you to blow them up enough so that, if they got tired, they would be able to float (while they screamed D-AAAAAAA-D!!!!) but they wouldn't be so bulky that they would be cumbersome to swim in. Pomperaugrr Posted December 11, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted December 11, 2007 Vests are a good suggestion. We're planning on bringing the vests and snorkling equipment for them. They are comfortable in the water, but my concern is finding a beach on the Caribbean side without riptides and with mild surf. :) Eric
Karysa Posted December 11, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 11, 2007 You may like Dickenson Bay. The snorkeling is not good but the beach is calm, the sand lovely and there are chair rentals, bars, restaurants and bathrooms. A little hint would be to use the yellow bathroom building which is part of the Halcyon resort it is towards the resort on the beach just past the restaurant that is suspended over the water. The Halcyon has a bar where you can by drinks etc. . Since the Halcyon is a family resort they may also find other children to play with at that area of the beach. Pomperaugrr Posted December 13, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted December 13, 2007 Thanks. We will have to look into it more. I presume there are bathroom facilities available.
