Rome to Civitavecchia - Best way to get there?

We are going on a cruise in a couple months and it embarks it Civitavecchia. We are flying into Rome a couple days early and was wondering what transportation options were available. Thanks!

The best way is to "SHARE A RIDE".

 

Go to your roll call for your cruise and see if anyone has already begun a ride share to the port from Rome. We did this on our recent trip.....much easier than the train.....much cheaper than a limo or taxi. See my review I just posted - Short review of Rome 11/21-23/07.

We did the train, and it was easy. Nine euro round trip per person, not crowded, and pretty straight forward. You have to be able to carry your own luggage. If the train isn't for you, I would recommend sharing a ride. A little more expensive, but you won't have to deal with your luggage. We loved the train, though. Good luck, and you will have a great time!

Just on this first page alone there are some threads on getting to/ from the port to Rome and airport,I am not a fan of the train with luggage and there are some suggestions for private transfers or you can get a cab.

There was a warning on CC not too long ago about sharing rides. Seems that a few passengers didn't show up and the organizer of the transportation got stuck with the passengers portion of the ride cost. :eek:

 

Say you have 40 people signed up for transportation @ $35 pp. Four of those passengers don't show. Someone (either the organizer or divided upon the rest of the passengers) have to make up the fare for the driver. That's either an extra $140 cost for the organizer or split the cost between remaining passengers.

Where does one pick up the train from the airport to the port/ship? 9 Euros sounds like a good deal, but how difficult is it to get from the airport to the train with cruise luggage? Thanks, TT

From what I have read on this board...VERY difficult, especially for those that are not in the best of shape. You can do a search on this board. there are several threads that deal with this subject. ;)

Yes, there are many dozens of threads on the subject (this should be a FAQ or a Sticky on this section of the boards), and you'll get more information doing a search than you will in response to a single thread anyway.
