 Sailing on RC Grandeur of Sea 1/26/08 is there anywhere to just relax and catch some sun on a nice beach walking distance from where the ship tethers you to shore for the day.Or a short cab ride, we don't want a 30-40 minute ride when we get off the ship.

No...if you want a nice beach you'll have to go out to one of the Cayes, either on a ship sponsered excursion or a private excursion. They can only get to them by boat, not a cab. There is only one beach in the town area and I believe its manmade and the reviews I read weren't that good. The nice beaches are all on cayes...and they really are very nice.

This is one port that I would definately plan an excursion.

. . . I have always found the after decks of the ship I came in on very accommodating, the bar within a few feet (although most of the time the stewards were circulating anyway), no elbowing for the tenders among ladies twice my age (with sharper elbows and heavy canes too, darn them), and no fears of the ship's sailing without me.

You WILL pay for a "nice beach," and you WILL have to follow vmom's advice if you want one.
