Blue Lagoon near MIA

Has anyone stayed in the Blue Lagoon area near the Miami airport? Any ideas of what is nearby - especially within walking distance (a mile or 2).

 

Read somewhere that there are suppose to be Manatees in the Blue Lagoon - is that fact or fiction? Would love to see one.

 

Our group will be wandering in for precruise stay anywhere from 11am to 11pm. Looking for ideas. Will be Jan 18 (getting closer).

Blue Lagoon is a corporate office park east of a former industrial area south of the airport. The 94th Aero Squadron is within walking distance, but there may not be a sidewalk once you get to 57th Avenue. There's a strip mall at NW 7th Street and 57th Avenue. The area once you leave the hotel (the Hilton, I assume) is pretty dreary, though not particularly dangerous. You might want to have dinner in the hotel. If you're going to be there for any length of time, you really need to rent a car or take taxis.
