Shoretrips.com Cozumel

We did last year, after our ship cancelled Belize and went to Cozumel instead. We were scheduled to dive in Ambergris Cay, and when a person on the ship had a massive heart attack, the ship turned back to Miami, forcing us to miss a port and reschedule the others.

I immediately emailed ShoreTrips, and they refunded the difference in price and made it so we could dive in Cozumel. I do not recall which dive operator they used, but it was very hassle free - we took a cab into town and we were on our way in a matter of minutes; we dove with our own equipment. We had two other couples with us in a small fast boat for a total of 6 divers and one dm.

The dives were excellent and afterwards, we had time to shop and go out to eat. The dive shop's pier was across the street, so like I said it was hassle free.

One thing I like about ShoreTrips is the fact that if a port gets cancelled, you won't lose any money. A lot of dive operations - especially small ones, will keep your deposit if you don't show up for whatever the reason.

Hope this helps.

Reputable dive operators will refund your deposit if your ships doesn't make it's stop at their island.

Not to degrade anyone's experiences with shoretrips, but wouldn't you really like to know exactly who you will be diving with?

I'd be happy to make a recommendation for a dive operator in Cozumel if you are interested.

Thanks Sailfish for your thoughts and Bruce

If you wouldnt mind, what are your recommendations

My personal favorite is http://www.bluextseadiving.com

Others I would consider using are:

http://www.scubawithalison.com gets excellent reviews

http://www.scubatony.com

http://bottomtimedivers.net

http://www.divewithmartin.com

http://www.blueangel-scuba.com

http://www.geocities.com/scubabetsy/

And while I would probably not use them as I prefer small boats http://www.eagleraydivers.com, gets good reviews from other cruisers.

You are probably right about a lot of dive operators in Cozumel, as they are used to cruise line traffic. But I have been trying since August, to deal with independent dive operators in Dominica and Grenada and not a one will refund your deposit if the ship does not make it into port. Further more, many in Aruba, Bonaire, and St. Thomas won't either.

Although it is not the policy of ShoreTrips to tell you which dive operator they use, it isn't too hard to find out, as they take the information just about word for word off of dive operator's websites and include identical photos. And you can always call them.

As far as Cozumel goes, you will have a lot of dive operators to select from - there a many excellent ones, and Cozumel is probably the most cruise passenger friendly port there is, so you should have no problems getting your deposit back if the ship can't get into the port.

I use ShoreTrips because they coordinate our dive package when I do groups. But I usually prefer to deal with independent dive operators when I go it alone. ShoreTrips has never set up my dive groups with an operator I would not have gone with myself. But I have set up my groups with dive operators that I now know to avoid!

Like everything, you have to do your homework. I find ShoreTrips convenient for my groups as you can book on line, they keep my groups together (a big plus) and they always give us a substantial discount. And the fact that they have a refund policy that they will honor is nice as well.

A group's needs are different than that of an individual. You should research your options and decide what is best for you.

Alright, I realize that this may be a bit late but I want to dive in Cozumel Monday...and am arriving onboard the Carnival Fantasy. Who do I use?!

I have found a bunch of places but I'm not the most evperienced diver and my son is newly certified.

What do I do?

any of the dive operators mentioned in this thread would be a good choice. Contact one (or more) of them NOW.
