Thanks for the pics. We're you able to raise and lower the beds or is that something the crew took care of?

 

We were originally planning on the Fortuna for that week, but couldn't pass up the great price on a balcony cabin on the MED. Our girls are 9 and 11.

The beds were kept down for the week and we all bumped our heads on them at least once! I never thought about asking the steward to fold them against the wall...duh! But thanks for the advice for next time.:)

 

You will LOVE the Med! Bepe and Pepe, the cruise directors are really silly and your daughters will have a good time with them.

we've cruised the Miracle too - since the Med is the same lay out how do you compare the 2? We were not fans of the pinkish purplish neon chicklets in the dining room of the Miracle and some of the rooms were DEFINITELY over the top for us (the mad hatter lounge under the show lounge comes immediately to mind....)

 

Is the Med more muted/low key?

I would compare the interior decor of the Mediterranea a lot to the Magica. Simply picture the Farcus design on the Miracle - voila - you got the Atlantica and Mediterranea.

 

(I just wish they would bring the Serena or Concorida to FLL for some Caribbean cruising)

The Miracle had more small bars and lounges. On the Med, the little bars were gone and instead there would be one large lounge. This was the case on the 3rd and 2nd floors, just outside the entrances to the Theater and on the 2nd floor at the main entrance to the restaurant.

 

Otherwise the ships were the same. On our last sea day it rained on and off for most of the day. The retractable roof over the pool kept opening and closing to keep up with the rain. In all my Carnival cruises, I've never seen the retractable roof used! I was impressed that not only did Costa use the roof, but they tried to open it whenever it stopped raining.

 

And yes, the Med is more low key. For example, here's a photo of the lights in the main dining room. I know they're not big purple grapes, but they're interesting none the less.

The life boat/muster drill will take place at 4:00 PM, just PRIOR to you departing the pier in Fort Lauderdale. If everything goes as scheduled, you'll be starting to move by the time you're back in your cabin.

going on the costa med. 3/29, can't wait, 1st time on costa. I was wondering what language the nightly shows are in and comedians? English I hope. I don't know how they could do the shows in 5 different languages. I think I read all the announcements are in 5 different languages even in the carribean? Thanks for any replys

lock it if you want.. suggest tsa lock.. the cruise ship will not inspect ..only immigration..if they ask..otherwise only tsa at airport if they want , not all bags are opened.. unless the tsa people see something valuable in the x ray.. that they want.. then probably will open...bye bye valuables

Two of the nightly shows did not have any speaking at all. The Argentinean Dancer and comedian were (almost) silent shows. It was very interesting, and the comedian had us rolling on the floor.

 

One night the singer was in English, the next night it was English and Italian. The Roman Bacchanal was narrated in 5 languages, but each performer sang in their native language. Again, it was really interesting.

 

My family LOVED hearing all of the different languages being spoken aboard. It was like being on an exotic vacation!

We were sailing on the Western Caribbean route so we left Ft. Lauderdale at 7pm. It was kinda strange having dinner in the dining room while we were still docked!

 

Anyway, our lifeboat drill was at 10am the following day. We had a day at sea so it wasn't a big deal. The drill took place in lounges throughout the ship because it was drizzling outside. We were in and out in about 30 minutes.

Hi, we are going March 15 - 22 on the Mediterranea and I am wondering what the layouts of the rooms were like on the Meditteranea. We are going to be on the Circe deck, outside cabin with a window and wondered if we'd have bunks or a flip-out couch for our kids? I couldn't get any info from the cruise line.... we were just told it sleeps 4.

 

We've been on Carnival before, 4 to a room but the room was bunks that came down from the ceiling.

 

Any ideas?

Thank you for the excellent review!! We will depart on the Med this Saturday:) I was wondering if you have any information of the Spa/ gym?? Also, did you eat at the "Club Medusa" and if so your thoughts?? I was on the Magica two years ago and I could not understand all the bad reviews?? I agree it was the Americans and Canadians that were the most difficult!!

My DH brought cash on board, but he just told me that you can get cash with your ship card (Costa Card) and that they can cash traveler's checks at the casino cage. He believes that they do charge a small percentage or fee for using your Costa Card.

 

I didn't hear many people talking about winning in the casino and I know DH didn't! The dealers were very nice and we enjoyed talking to them while playing. Good luck and have fun!

Your room will be laid out exactly like a Carnival oceanview or balcony room. You'll have the two twin beds made into queen and a sofa that will be made up each night into a single bed. A bunk bed will fold out from the ceiling over the sofa and that's where your 4th person will sleep. There will be a ladder to get into the bunk and a railing to keep you in your bunk.
