can your 7 year old operate a walkie talkie?

On our last cruise, we took walkie talkies, which came in handy a bit. This time Emma will be 7 and will go to the children's activities (or so she says). She's nervous about not being able to reach us if she needs us. Has your 7 year old ever reached you by walkie talkie?

On our last cruise, my dd was 8. We used walkie-talkies, but she didn't have one of her own since she was with her older brother or me. The walkie talkies were iffy in reception.

I am not certain that a kids club would allow a 7 year old to have a walkie talkie. It might be too much of a temptation to call mom every two minutes.
