travelscot Posted December 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2007 :) A recent question on Dining Room Attire got some responses that semi formal nights are being done away with and that jackets other than on Formal nights are not needed. I am an "older more conservative" type but am quite happy not to wear a jacket and of course not having to pack it and carry it to and from the ship! Has anyone been on the Jewel recently to advise me if the semi formal nights have been done away with on her? We are going on an eight night cruise in January. Thank you.
Sue L Posted December 30, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2007 They are listed as smart casual not semi-formal and yes they are pretty much gone on all but the longer cruises. Most of the men had on nice docker type pants and collared shirts, like golf type polo shirts. Some had sports jackets on over them and you can go either way. The smart casual was listed on our last cruise in August but looking at the male passengers you wouldn't have known the difference between those nights and just casual. The women were dressed nicely every night.
mamacat3 Posted December 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2007 We just got off Jewel at the beginning of the month. As Sue said there is no semi-formal. Smart casual is the new buzz word. IMHO there is no difference between casual and smart casual attire - you will see some of everything. People are pretty much dressing in the way that they are comfortable. The women will dress more than the men. Most men had nice collared polo shirts on or button down shirts. Good luck and happy cruising!:)

cruizinmimi Posted December 30, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2007 travelscot - we just got off the Jewel Dec. 23rd (8 night). As everyone has said the semi-formal is now gone. It will state in the Compass that the attire "for tonight" is smart casual. Most of the men wore a collared shirt and dress pants, a few men had on sports jackets (very few). I say "Don't bring all your extra sports jackets". You will love the Jewel. It was our first time on a radiance class and we thought the Jewel was beautiful. The staff & crew were outstanding. Enjoy your cruise.
