pinkgusto Posted January 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Does anyone know if the Spirit will be back to the original itinerary for the 1/6 cruise? I heard that they had to drop a port due to engine problems... cruising out in a few days, and would like to know! :)
scottyo72 Posted January 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Does anyone know if the Spirit will be back to the original itinerary for the 1/6 cruise? I heard that they had to drop a port due to engine problems... cruising out in a few days, and would like to know! :) Almost, but not quite. They're hitting all 4 stops, but will arrive late in Roatan. I have not gotten this email yet, but someone else posted it in another thread. Dear Valued Travel Partners & Guests, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has important information for you regarding Norwegian Spirit’s 7-day WesternCaribbean sailings from New Orleans, Louisiana on January 6, 2008 and January 13, 2008. All guests bookedon these sailings need to be aware of this change and travel professionals are asked to forward this information totheir clients. Because of a technical issue with one of her four engines, Norwegian Spirit will be travelling at a reduced speed for the above mentioned sailings. Please be assured that the engine issue reducing our speed capabilities in no wayimpacts the safe operation of the vessel.Based on this reduced speed, we will arrive in Roatán, Bay Islands, Honduras two hours later than originallyscheduled. We have made every attempt to maximize your time in Roatán . Unfortunately, because of ourtechnical issue and the distance between New Orleans and Roatán we are unable to arrive earlier. Our revised itinerary will be: Sun New Orleans, Louisiana 5:30 PM Mon At SeaTue Roatán, Bay Islands, Honduras 3:00 PM 8:00 PMWed Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala 8:00 AM 6:00 PMThu Belize City, Belize 8:00 AM 6:00 PMFri Cozumel, Mexico 8:00 AM 5:00 PMSat At SeaSun New Orleans, Louisiana 8:00 AM It's not often that we need to alter an itinerary. When we do, we know it can cause disappointment. As a result of this itinerary change, we have arranged for guests to have an automatic credit of $50 per person (maximum $100per stateroom) applied directly to their on -board account. This non-refundable credit may be used for any onboardpurchase except for service charges and in the casino.Guests choosing not to sail as a result of this itinerary change may cancel their cruise without cancellation fees andreceive a full refund of the cruise fare paid. Please contact your travel representative as soon as possible shouldyou decide to cancel your reservation. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Norwegian Cruise Line. Should you have any questions about this change, please call us at (800) 327-7030. As always, a NCL representative is available to assist you. rubythroatbird Posted January 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Thank you, Scotty. I was not aware of this and had already arranged a private tour. I just looked at NCL's web site, but I see that they do not have (or I can't find) "advisories" about things like this, like they have on airline websites. I did see that they state it takes two hours after docking for folks to disembark. Here is my question to more experienced travelers? Does it really take 2 hours to get off? Because if the Spirit doesn't dock until 3 PM and it takes me 2 hours to get off, I need to cancel the private driver since I won't really have time to visit the sights I had planned. dottyparka Posted January 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Scotty, I got the phone call today from NCL confirming the late arrival in Roatan and that there will be a $50pp on-board credit ($100 max/stateroom). PinkGusto, Come say hi! on our Roll Call. We've got a pretty nice-sized group for a meet n' greet on Monday.
bamaboi1999 Posted January 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Yes you should cancel it! When we arrived in Roatan at 1pm, it was almost 3pm before we got onto the island b/c all of the folks that has an excursion with NCL gets to get off the boat first. We only had 2 hrs of daylight left. You will be lucky to get off the ship by sunset and there will be no use to hire a private tour at that time. My advice to you is to take advantage of the little shopping vendors along the street side. I will say that certain items are alot cheaper in Roatan compared to Belize. Especially the wooden items (vases, bowls, etc.). Take advantage of this if you are looking to bring back home some nice handmade items. Hope you have a safe trip! SunniLicious Posted January 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Another one who got a phone call from NCL today confirming that the Spirit will be hitting the planned ports on the planned days for both the 1/6 and 1/13 sailings, but will arrive in Roatan 2 hrs late. As compensation a $50 pp/max $100/cabin onboard credit will be given.
rubythroatbird Posted January 2, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2008 I have cancelled the driver and will look for the vendors. Do they bargain? What's a good price on, say, a nice wooden bowl? Any good place to grab a nice cerveza nearby?
ctdahlquist Posted January 3, 2008 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2008 So, one engine is still out, thus the late arrival in Roatan. Any word on how or when the engine will be fixed and the ship back up to speed? It seems they are having a problem getting the situation resolved. My concern now would be NCL having to cancel some future cruise to do a thorough repair. I hate to think this way, but this kind of thing has happend to me before. I'm scheduled to leave on the 1/20 sailing.
pla Posted January 3, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2008 I am also scheduled for that sail. I REALLY hope it is not cancelled. I have never had it happen yet, but there is always the possibility. We thought going out this summer in August would be cancelled as there was a Cat 5 Hurricane coming at us in the Gulf before we left, but it was a great trip (a little rough one day when we probably "passed" it). I like what they are doing for the next 2 trips, I do hope that happens to us. I don't mind getting to Honduras 2 hours late if it means $100 per cabin credit! We have 2 cabins, and it would be great for our family of 5....seems that is the best of both worlds. Oh dear, I have a 3 girls, ages 7, 10 and 11. Can you hear the Hannah Montana words coming from my mouth??????? 24 hours a day is just a little bit much of "The BESSSST of Both Worlds" A cruise will be a blessed relief from those CD's. I am NOT bringing the CD player, but if you see 3 girls singing HM in the hall, they would HAVE to be mine!:o
ST.ice Posted January 3, 2008 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2008 I talked to ncl tonight and was told the 6th and 13th are the last cruises to arrive late in rotan and that the engines a repaired and that the problem is now with a propeller. I hope their right!

Rare Smellytoes Posted January 3, 2008 #13 Share Posted January 3, 2008 Does anyone know if these repairs can be made without a drydock?? I'm not scheduled to go until 4/19 but this exact same thing happened to us last year on the Dawn and the sailings two weeks after us were cancelled. nasvhillecruise Posted January 3, 2008 #14 Share Posted January 3, 2008 I just got the letter today showing that the later times will last through March. Did you notice that this letter does not offer OBC like the earlier one did? We may call to see if we can get the credit as well. Not sure if it will do any good, but will let you know.
